More likely, they live in the spacious attic, or the garage, or a room made at the end of the driveway if no enclosed garage exists.

I did once. Just over 2 decades ago. I was 14. It was a rental house. I liked the room in the finished basement. It has its own bathroom and entrance. I hoped to have girls over late at night undetected. I didn't have that kind of game. Didn't happen... but it was still the best bedroom in the house. We only lived there a few months.

I lived with my parents after college for a bit but I just stayed in my old bedroom on the upper floor. Why would they let me take up their nice finished basement when I could just be in my room? Makes no sense.

I did in HS as well, not that my family was that terrible in retrospect but there was alot of screaming and yelling and it gave me a place to get away from it.
