In my past soulsborne games, I always do a generic sword/shield sort of build. I'd like to do something that gives me a new play style, some sort of magic user maybe? How should i start out, what specs should I be worried about?

str+dex to 40, crank that stamina and health until you feel comfortable with them

Herald is perfect if you want to go with something familiar but with a little zest.

Pyro

Does the fire glove become the main weapon or does it just sort of supplement other weapons? I'd like to try something completely new

Go with the sellsword, I think it is. Starts you out with the sell sword twinblades. Crank your dex and intelligence high as fuck, and roll with crystal magic weapon.

You'll dominate just about everything

Also, regarding pyro, you can play it one of two ways. Pure pyro is somewhat viable as it gets access to some incredible dark magic later on. Pyro melee mix is really fucking good though, as you get access to the chaos and dark infusions, as well as a dlc weapon that I hold dear to my heart

Seriously Herald is perfect.

You'll be a primarily melee character but it plays out a little differently and it has so much more depth than pure melee, and it's no so reliant on spells that it turns the game into easy mode like sorcerer does.

Pyro or Knight. Both of those classes have the least points put into luck, which is a practically useless stat, unless you are going for a VERY specific build.

Overall, I would highly recommend Knight. You can turn that class into anything, and you shouldn't ever have any regrets.

This is laughably wrong. Even faith got some love in the Ringed City DLC.

IDK, I played it a lot when it was released and the general consensus was that magic is bad. If it has changed with the DLC that would be pretty good.

Faith dex build. Lothric Knight sword, lightning or bless infusion. Use lightning spear, lightning blade and lightning stake

I audibly laughed when I read that, omgosh. lol.

Magic nukes. All the magic types: Pyro, sorcery, miracle, dark... Lions, tigers, bears, oh my.

They all have thier heavy hitters, which are pretty comparable to each other.

Miracles has sunlight spear. Sorcery has Crystal soul spear (plus a few others, but soul spear wins in ease of use). Pyro has Chaos bed vestiges AND great chaos fire orb. Dark has Affinity and great soul dregs.

All of them are beastly.

I didn't mean to come off sounding like a dick, but yeah the magic has changed a lot post dlc. The first one gave pyro a huge boost, and the 2nd one added some really good pyros and miracles.

Sorcery kinda sits middle of the road now, decent for pve, but still bad for pvp

Don't forget the fucking pyro sword that weighs literally nothing iirc, and lets you combo directly into black flame out of its weapon art. Ridic

imo just pick a weapon you like and build stats around what is needed to use it, raising stamina as much as is needed

this has been true in all the games
