If we're talking objectively, then you're correct. There is no inherent difference between a 4/10 and a 10/10.

However, we live in societies and social constructs where quantification is a real thing. You can't sit there and say appearances don't mean anything to you. We're simply too entrenched in cultural to really step outside of it and actually live by some code-free value.

Just because you don't like the game doesn't mean you can't play.

Certainly apperance plays a large role. I'm not going to cold approach a woman that I don't find attractive. However, what different people find attractive is subjective, so someone you might think is a 10/10 could be a 4/10 for me. Hence why the "dating down" thing is dumb because maybe they don't see it that way.

If a woman dates down in looks its because the guy is compensating with either a decent social or financial status.

That or you need to be some sort of artist i.e. actor, musician, dancer, etc.

If you're talking about 8-10/10s dating down to 5-7/10s, women do it far, far more. If you're talking 4-610s dating down to 1-3/10s, men do it far more.

I understand looks are relative, but they're also largely culturally influenced. There's a reason you only see certain body types and facial constructs on the cover of magazines, or trying out for Miss Whatever. Even beyond looks, there are other variables.Within our culture, there are quantifiable "status" numbers in both looks, talent, wealth, and so forth.
