This is relying entirely on the slippery-slope fallacy. Stop buying what the NRA is literally selling to keep their revenues up and recognize we have a fucking problem in our country.

The Onion headline is, "''No Way To Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens." Topics like this show that the Onion isn't even being satirical. People shit themselves because a bunch of kids don't want to get shot in their fucking classrooms because it's easier to get a weapon designed for nothing but killing than it is to get a car. Or at least to lower the damn odds. Other industrialized nations don't have this problem. They just don't.

"Criminals will find a way to get guns anyway" doesn't mean we should just make it easy for them. And very rarely does the "good guy with a gun" pull anything off. "People will kill each other anyway?" That's like saying people will just run to work that's 10 miles away if we took away all cars. It's physically possible, and a few people will try, but removing the ease of use also deters a majority of people from actually doing it. There's a reason crime spikes in summer -- it's more inconvenient to do as much stupid shit when it's cold.

Now, do I support a blanket ban on all guns? Fuck no. First, with how many guns are already out there, it's impossible. Also, the second amendment does exist (you've just forgotten the first half of it). Plus, guns have a lot of practical uses. Hunting, actual defense (handguns), and hell, shooting at a range is tons of fun. And I get that the term "assault weapon" is tough to define, even though I really don't see a practical use to an AR-15 unless you need to cull the boar population in Texas and Louisiana. But is it really so hard to admit that maybe background checks should be universal without any gun-show loopholes, and a waiting period will help deter not just murder but also suicide? Is your high horse worth all the subsequent blood on your hands?

Not to mention that almost all illegal guns that people like to cite as a reason "gun control will never work" were, at one point, legal guns. It isn't like Smith and Wesson sort their manufacturing lots into "legal" and "illegal." We're awash in illegal guns because it's so damn easy to acquire them legally.

We need to stem the tide. This is where it starts. Man the fuck up about it.

Thats a no chief.

Modern humans (Homo sapiens, ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens) are the only extant members of the subtribe Hominina, a branch of the tribe Hominini belonging to the family of great apes. They are characterized by erect posture and bipedal locomotion; high manual dexterity and heavy tool use compared to other animals; open-ended and complex language use compared to other animal communications; and a general trend toward larger, more complex brains and societies

While your hate for America is admirable.... I would point out that good guys with guns actually stop many many crimes.... it just doesn't make national news because it doesn't fit the MSM's agenda.

Arm ALL teachers. That's the way to stop it. Has been for a decade. Anyone against it is complicit in every shooting.

I get the historical aspect of it. We are a country founded on armed revolution, the only really successful one in the world. That was 240 years ago. Slavery was legal then, too. Let's reevaluate how reality looks. Can someone really be so delusional that, in the case of the US becoming Hitler's Germany, small arms are going to do shit to air strikes, drones, and tanks? People need to get over themselves and realize Rambo movies are fiction.

It worked in Vietnam. How are Iraq and Afghanistan going, again.

A bunch of goat farmers hiding in caves in the poorest countries on Earth with nothing more than small arms can hold the US military to a stalemate. You think you're going to forcibly pacify Texas?

Seph, what level of gun control in addition to current laws do you support?

Wheres the line where, if Republicans crosses it in reaction to the protests, youd stay home?

Restrictions based on violent behavior (with due process), banning methods to turn semiautomatic weapons into automatics are fine. Enforce the current laws.

The second amendment isn't just to defend against tyranny. It's designed to give everyone the right of agency in their own defense, so we do not have to rely exclusively on government protection. That is a fundamental freedom people take for granted.

Stop acting like you have a monopoly on patriotism. I love my damn country. I love our ideals. I love what we can be. I love that my Chinese friend wants to find a way, any way, to become American through hard work and dedication. My grandmother and her sisters were in an orphanage during the depression. One to two generations later, we have multiple millionaires, research scientists, and doctors in the family. Nowhere else would that be possible.

And that's why I would like to see less of my countrymen die from preventable violence within our country. You may question my methods, but don't you EVER question my intentions.

Right, take away funding for schools, but put a bunch of guns around hundreds of hormonal teenagers and a lot of overworked, overstressed, underpaid teachers who might absentmindedly leave it somewhere? Even if you prevent a mass shooting, how many smaller shootings will replace it? How could it easily cause a mass shooting to occur more easily? Even cops have tough aim in stressful situations, and they're literally trained for it; you expect a teacher to have the same amount of discipline when there's also tons of potential collateral damage if they miss? Please, analyze a solution before just asserting it. Keep your pistol money and use it so kids don't have to share textbooks in class and not bring them home to study.

Okay, even if I don't agree with this, I can understand where it's coming from. However, isn't it ironic that the same right that allows one to protect oneself is also the cause of the most immediate personal threat to oneself?

And again, I agree that people saying "ban all gunz pls" are dumb and out of touch with reality. But let's make it so it's harder for a bad guy to get a gun. If the good guy wants a gun, he can probably afford to wait a couple days and get a background check, right?

How many mass shootings are carried out by people who had just purchased their gun and who would have failed a background check?

obviously anthrax and wmds are silly, but why don't I have the agency to choose a machine gun? If I'm serious about protecting myself from the government I would want some serious firepower.
