I made a topic about it last month. He was found guilty of negligence and his sentence just came out: 4 years in jail.

The story, basically, is something like this:

- He owned two pit bulls
- The fence around his house had a big hole in it so his dogs often freely roamed the neighborhood
- He got a few fines for not keeping his dogs on a leash, and his mom paid the fines for him
- On at least two occasions, his dogs attacked neighbors' dogs
- One neighbor said she once waited 10 minutes in her car before going in her home because the guy's dogs were roaming around and she was afraid
- One day, his dogs were in a park (without a leash) with his 72 year old mom who was physically unable to control them. The dogs started to bark at the two girls (one aged 5 and one aged 7). The two girls were scared and ran away. So one of the dogs pounced on the 7 year old and started biting her
- The girl git pretty bad injuries. This is a google translate (from french) of a description of her injuries from the court case:

fractured skull, jaw crushed into seven pieces, crushed cheek muscles, salivary gland torn off, facial nerve torn off and severed, canal of inner ear destroyed, half of left face paralyzed, part of cheek removed, right hand fractured and lacerated in several places, tube inserted into the ear, screws inserted into the gums at the top and bottom to keep the mouth closed, scar on the left side of the face visible for life, metal plate on the left side to rebuild the jaw, face asymmetrical requiring injections of fat in adulthood, absorption of liquid food for three months, victim hides her scar with her hair, she must use a sunscreen SPF-110 to prevent the scar from becoming more apparent, the nerves of the taste have reconnected with those of sweat, insomnia and violent nightmares for months, eyelids do not close completely, drops in eyes every hour for a year with the use of a cream for the night;

He also had multiple past convictions, including breaking and entering and assault. He was recently convicted of assault causing bodily harm against the bailiff who served him the court papers for the pitbull case.

Pitbulls have a bite force several times stronger than any other domestic dog and have a tendency to be bloodthirsty and vicious. You have every reason to be terrified of pitbulls but not other dogs

German Shepards bite harder, so do Rottweilers, and breeds like my Italian Mastiff. Basically any large dog over 80lbs.

the dog has been conditioned by his bad owner, it would be very hard for it to rehab.
also, the owner needs to have a stricter punishment. not necessarily a longer jail time, but restrict him from owning any dog in the future.

Purebred Pit Bulls, as in American Pit Bull Terriers (the only Pit Bull) are not big dogs and not really that tall, they range from 30-60 lbs and if it's heavier then it's likely a mix.

Most of these "Pit Bulls" are actually bully breed mixes.

I got mauled by a big dog once or twice yet I'm not scared of them because 99% of dogs won't hurt you unprovoked. Hell I ended up getting my own dog a year after that.

Are pitbulls the same as bulldogs? Cause all the cartoons I watched as a kid always used a bulldog to protect shit, but is that just propaganda against them? I hear they're actually pretty sweet and I've never heard of a "bulldog" attack on the news.

I say hold the mom accountable; she was the one at the park. I know it sounds harsh and I wish none of this happen. But I don't see how you can blame him when he wasn't there. I mean there are cases were people leave their gun laying around and their kids uses and gets killed and don't go to jail. This guy wasn't there to stop it.

Note I am not a fan of Pittbulls and think there should be harder rules on people who want to get them. But anyone can get them so there is that.

I agree, and like I said I know it is very harsh to go after the old lady. And I think morally this is on him. But the legally just causes me pause.
