I don't really understand. I hear a ton of people say the gameplay was bad but i really enjoyed it..

I play a lot of action games and a lot of similar rpg types. It's not the best but i thought it was quite good. Miles better than something like Skyrim (though i love skyrim)

Combat wasn't terrible once I got used to it, but still one of the only noticeable flaws in the game for me. Their mistake was sacrificing tight controls for realistic movement physics. It takes Geralt too long to speed up when you want to run, and too long to slow down when you want to stop. This definitely made navigating tight spaces more frustrating than it should have been. Also the length of time it takes to build momentum each time you swing your weapon gives it a really laggy feel.

I tried playing Witcher 3 after a few solid months of playing Bloodborne. That didn't go so well.

WRPG with terrible combat is nothing new though. Even something like Skyrim's combat was for some reason regarded as passable

Am I the only one who likes Skyrim's combat? The controls have always felt tight as hell for me. I think a lot of people don't like that the game acts more like a DPS race when it comes to combat, and doesn't place a lot of emphasis on giving you opportunities to dodge your opponents' attacks. But idk, I'm pretty good at moving back and forth quick enough to dodge and land melee attacks.

I generally don't like combat with arbitrary win condition. Most of the answer to things you couldn't beat in Skyrim was just to build bigger and badder things and then just strafe while left clicking and bunch and just cast spells or yells til thing dies. It opened very few doors to actually outplaying the game by mastering its system, instead opted for the entire rest of the game to just simply carry to combat system for it.

Plus, in a lot of sense it's just a shooter combat without a gun

Yeah I kind of see what you mean. It was a bit frustrating sometimes when you would run into a situation that your character was simply not strong enough to handle, so after you quick save, you would have to fight that opponent or group of opponents over and over and OVER until you got lucky or decided to give in and drink half your potions to get through it. But during situations where you and your opponent(s) were pretty evenly matched, it felt fantastic and very fluid-like to me.

IINM, you can toggle alternative movement in the settings to switch to tighter but less realistic controls.

The combat is generally considered the weakest part of the game. It's said that if you put the game on Death March or whatever that it's better, but I dont believe that you should have to increase the difficulty for a game to be more enjoyable so I never tried it.

I enjoy whatever the easier difficulty is that doesn't let you heal by resting. Managing your health by eating food and stuff adds a pretty fun layer of depth to the game.

I guess it helps you turn faster. I turned on alternative movement almost immediately so I wouldn't know how much it helps.
