If bump firing is just as good, why cry about the stock ban?

Today's pretty much the day Trump became a Democrat (again) so good for him I guess.

Bump stocks are hillbilly toys and as of Paddock, spree killer ways of circumventing the intend of the law.
ATF classified them wrong.

We're a nation of laws, even if you support legalizing automatic guns, at least fucking go about it the right way.

You don't need to a bump stock to bump fire. Should someone get in trouble if they're caught bump firing (without the stock) their weapon?

No because it's not a mechanical device to aid it. Derp.
And you know bump firing is inaccurate and a shit way to shoot. It ain't comparable to bump stocks which facilitate it enough to closer mimic full auto.
If bump firing is just as good, why cry about the stock ban?

I know bump stocks are stupid, I have no desire to buy one. But you still get one round fired per pull of the trigger. And the basis for banning is nothing more than "people shouldn't have those!" which you can use to justify banning anything (firearm related) you don't like.

Here's a semi-auto firing, then a semi-auto with a bump stock and then an auto:

It's a stepping stone. If gun grabbers get their way with the bump stock, it will just embolden them to go after semi-autos.

Bump stocks are actually a fairly good scapegoat to stave off further gun control. They're just a lazy method to achieve an effect you can get manually. If you're someone who is against gun control in any form the banning of bump stocks is among the easiest of concessions to make.

This is true, but full auto guns shouldn't be illegal in the first place. The NFA was a knee-jerk reaction in 1934 to the Tommy gun's invention, because police forces didn't want to pay for them, but Al Capone did. They're actually far less practical.

No, the NFA was one of FDR's many unconstitutional moves to suppress the masses and used his Supreme Court to uphold them (he was very open about making the Supreme Court uphold everything he did) that later referred to his rotting corpse as Hitler when he died.

I mean the man vastly increased the scope of the Executive branch and was pushing to get more Justices on the Supreme Court because his "New Deal" was violating the constitution and were falling one after the other in Court. Hell, the judge that forced Miller to go before the Supreme Court was a former congressmen that aggressively pushed for the law.

I agree with you here.

But in a vacuum, fuck bump stocks. In the political sphere, get NATIONAL FUCKING CARRY FOR THEM. A trade I'd make every day. This may be a bad deal and weaken the pro-2nd amendment hand, but I ultimately don't care about the stocks themselves so I'm not dying on this hill.

And to reiterate my previous point, trying to circumvent the law is sketchy at best. Didn't we used to 'hate lawyers' and 'lawyering' at one point? Weren't technicalities shady and trashy ways for sleazeballs to win, independent of morality, ethics, or even fucking spirit of the law?
