A witness told police Danford came to the restaurant and had a few beers on the patio, saying he had been drinking all day.

The witness said Danford started playing with a dog. A 12-year-old girl came up to play with the dog, too, the document said, when Danford quickly jumped up from his seat and tackled her.

The witness said the two had no interaction before the incident and said she had no idea why Danford attacked the girl, the affidavit said.

Another witness said he heard the girl scream and ran up to see Danford punching her in the face and that he and others started punching and kicking Danford to get him off the girl, the document said.

The girl, who first appeared unconscious, got up and ran to her mother, the document said. The girl was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries, including swelling to her face, abrasions on her shoulder and arm, and scratches on her stomach, the affidavit said.

The girl told police she thought she was going to die as Danford punched her in the face and that she did not know him and had never seen him before that day, the document said.

Officers said Danford appeared highly intoxicated and smelled of alcohol.

According to court documents, Danford told police he was drugged. Officers said Danford and would not loosen his grip on an officers wrist until getting hit several times with a police baton before he was taken into custody.

in court he will make up a story about the girl being aggressive. he thought she was trying to kill the dog. or she was trying to steal the dog.

She was clearly armed and an immediate danger to the officer who feared for his life.
