It would have been pretty sad if he lost running unopposed, even if he is a Nazi.

Even if the Republican party did not promote him, the mass of supporters he has tells you all you have to know about the core Republican people

They should let go of their Christian guise, their lack of a moral compass is not compatible with that worldview.

That just means more attention should have been given to this election. There was a candidate elsewhere who was running unopposed until he made a joke about shooting another politician on Twitter, at which point both the Dems and GOP came up with people to run against him

When you run unopposed, it's kind of expected you'll win.

Regardless, the district is heavily blue and he won't win the general.

The district has been blue since 1975. Your contrarian gimmick is really getting old.

The headline here isn't really that he won, since he was running unopposed. The headline is that that many people still voted for him, despite his being a Nazi.

Two notable things though:

1) a fucking Nazi ran unopposed
2) 20k Republicans decided Nazis are like totes cool now

99% of the 20k votes were from people that don't pay attention to the news and just vote Republican automatically. In that respect, 20k is small and it shows that most Republicans are informed don't just blindly support their party.

Illinois has open primaries. The fact that no one ran against this guy may well have swayed the Democratic primary towards the conservative incumbent as Republicans sought to influence the race that actually had competition. Anti-choice folks were working to get out the vote for Lipinski

I really wouldn't be surprised if those 20,000 people just saw (R) next to his name and voted 100% based on that, probably don't even know who he is.

That said he's gonna get rekt in the actual election.

More likely it was 19,000 Repubicans who just voted the dude with an R. And 1,000 sympathizers

Just for comparison's sake: 4 years ago, the last time there was a GOP candidate in the district, 29k voted in a competitive primary

The last time Arthur Jones was on the ballot, in 2012, he received 3,861 votes, 11 percent in the GOP primary.

There was a competitive GOP primary for governor in this year as in 2014; judge for yourself why 9K fewer Republicans voted in the House primary this year as compared to then.

Illinois Nazis? Reality is now basically one long John Belushi background scene, isn't it?

In the words of Marc Maron, "Some things you never thought youd say, like, 'Wow, these Nazis are annoying. Did I just say that? Is this real life? Did I say that?'".

Sorry, what's your stance on this person winning the primary?

Just to remind you, a primary is held within the party ranks, not in opposition to the other party. I would be very surprised indeed to see a blue wave in a Republican primary.
