For a CS degree? I asked my advisor and he didn't really give a clear answer, just that it looks good but isn't really necessary. Does it help at all with job prospects or will it just be a waste of time?

It helps with computer science skills.

Not really. Employers really only see what your degree title is

But hey, if you want to fill up some space on your resume, go ahead and get it.

I genuinely question if minors matter at all from a resume standpoint. Like obviously if you enjoy the subject matter or think the additional knowledge will help, you should consider it but if you are only getting the minor to make your resume look better you are probably wasting your time.

Depends on what math classes you take.

There are math classes very closely associated with computer science that would show you have additional relevant knowledge.

If your math minor just requires the calculus sequence and DEs though, that's sort of going to count as much as most minors do.

It's kind of flexible but I'd definitely take linear algebra and combinatorics since they also give CS credit. I'd then take other CS-related math classes to finish up the minor.

As far as employment it can be marginally helpful for some majors, such as finance, which is filled with people who barely understand the actually numbers and just want to get big wall street paychecks. Ditto with CS. Otherwise, meh.

Are math minor classes all that difficult? I've done pretty well in calculus 1/2 and discrete math so far, do they stay around that difficulty or do they ramp up?

Depends on you. The higher you go in mathematics, the more theoretical it becomes, so if you don't care for proofs, it really isn't worth your time.

Go double major or don't bother.
