the facts of loss on this claim were that the guy left the sink running too long and it overflowed causing damage to his apartment and the apartment below.

so he calls in. it's not my claim and it's not a state i handle. i'm just overflow calling for that demand pool. i start to get the info and i say hey can you tell me a little about what is going on?

he says, "can i tell you the truth? i'm really embarrassed about what happened but i want to be honest."

now at this point i figure he's embarrassed about having left the sink on. not uncommon. we get more claims than one would expect for people who left their tub or sink running and fell asleep. fine. it happens.

and i laughed and was like "well i see here you left the sink running and it overflowed is that right?"

and he says, "no what actually happened is i tried to kill myself and i didn't know i left the sink on. i passed out for 3.5 hours and then i was in the hospital for 3 days."

.................. what a fucking punch to the gut. i felt like a total piece of shit.

but i just was telling him hey you don't need to be embarrassed about that. we're not here to judge you we're here to see what we can try to help with out of your policy to make this situation a little easier.

yeah he provided them initially too and gave them the wrong facts because he was embarrassed. which i can understand but i hope he doesn't feel that embarrassed. it's nothing to be ashamed of.

i told him like stuff happens in life man and we're not here to judge you over it so you don't have to be embarrassed when you talk to us.

and i just told him i hoped he felt better soon when we disconnected the call because i didn't know what else to say.

I don't think she feels bad for the guy. She feels bad she had to hear about his suicide attempt.

She's more concerned with how she felt and reacted than his feelings about actually admitting that to a total stranger. I do hope the guy gets help and that his actual claims agent is a nice person.

no i felt horrible that he went through that. that's why i tried to be as empathetic as possible so he wouldn't feel embarrassed when he talked to us. that's the last thing he needs right now.

The tipped wage was established after the emancipation proclamation in order to legally perpetuate slavery, since most service positions were held by persons of color. So their employer's aren't paying them a living wage, based on the assumption that you will compensate them for their service. Since you have made it abundantly clear that you won't be doing so, you are expecting people to provide a service to you without financial compensation.

In other words, you are exploiting a loophole that was created for the purpose of perpetuating slavery for the sole purpose of not paying those who work for you. So yes, you unwittingly support and condone slavery.
