Would you be able to just put the games on there or would you need to install an entirely separate OS? Do you have to switch between the hard drive and the SSD?

My games go off my 1TB HDD while the OS runs on my SSD. Works fine.

No need for a separate OS. Short version: connect the SSD properly, make sure it's recognized as a hard drive in Windows, and from there you can just install games onto it.

That's what I thought. Found a review that mentioned putting an OS on it, but I suppose they just wanted to run their entire PC off of it.

I imagine they aren't universal, right? Would this be a good one to buy?

They are pretty much universal as long as your motherboard and power supply have SATA connections.

Many people prefer to have the OS on the SSD so it boots up lightning fast and use an HDD to store everything else.

An SSD works just like a spinning disk drive as far as windows is concerned (without getting into stuff like TRIM/garbage collection, which you don't have to worry about).

That's how I did it. Windows is on an SDD then I have a 1TB HDD for games. My computer is fully booted in ~5-7 seconds.

I couldn't imagine running games off of a spinning disk these days. I've been on a 512 gig 840 evo for years and am spoiled by the load times.
