It starts in September. It will be $3.99 a month. Or 19.99 for a year. And you get some added benefits like access to Classic games with added o line components and eShop discounts. It's still free until then, though. So, your thoughts on this...

I assume so. They have been talking about a paid subscription fee like the other systems have.

No interest in paying a subscription since I play most games on my pc, so this hurts my interest in getting a switch.

I think it should be worth it. I mean, it still seems cheaper than the other system. $19.99 for a year. And you get discounts in the eShop, and some other stuff. It's possible that depending on the discount amounts and how many games you normally buy that it could probably pay for itself. But I won't know until it up and I get it...

I can see it hurting some people's interest in Switch. But it's not different from any other console other. But PC owners(Or more specifically, PC gamers who's primary is PC) probably won't like it. I do wish Nintendo stayed the same and just left it free. But whatever...

I think they've been working on making sure the connection issues are fixed. They wanted to make sure it worked before adding the subscription fee. TBH, I haven't had any real connection issues with the Switch since the Splatoon Test Fire which was a while ago, so...

It's cheap so I can't really complain too much about it. It sucks that it won't be free any longer but hopefully they can put money towards improving how user-unfriendly their online shit always is

I'm not a fan of it but it'll be hard not to make it worth 20 bucks with all the stuff ninty is capable of giving us
but it really goes back to how I felt about ps4 needing plus to play online: PS3 was free and people still were more than willing to shell out $60 to play 360 online in droves with little complaint, so why would sony pass up on free money

The big thing was that Live (at the time, I haven't used Live in years) was a VERY solid online service and the PS online was not the greatest before and immediately after Plus became a thing. Don't know how different each service is now because I haven't used either in years but Live set a good precedent early on that gave them a large, loyal subscriber base.

They are charging a fee for online but all their released multiplayer games as far as I'm aware so far have been peer to peer, same as it's always been, so they are not improving their online at all, and they still haven't offered a better solution for voice chat than their stupid 3 way with a smartphone which is so much of a hassle nobody will use it, and they are well aware of that, the "benefits" are free limited really old games you can run on even your smartphone with an emulator.

So while $20 a year isn't much, you are literally paying for nothing, you're just getting the same terrible online experience that's always been on Nintendo consoles, but now you have have to pay for it.

Not really surprised being as Microsoft and Sony are doing it. The only reason the price is low is because the online multiplayer feature for Nintendo games would be bare bones. If more games came out and offered online multiplayer the price no doubt would be higher.

I don't play online anyway so it doesn't really concern me. It's nice that they kept it open and free until then though.

I don't think it's a matter of kindness, it's a matter of smart business.

Their multiplayer library currently lack sufficient draw to convince a large numbers of gamers to pay for the online subscription. If they launch it when nobody is eager to jump online for a new online multiplayer game, they risk people complaining about suddenly being asked to pay a subscription fee when their library for it is poor. Right now, the only thing people can fall back on when defending it is saying it's not that expensive.

If Smash comes out this year as they claim, be it a remake or not, that would be the perfect time to launch their subscription service. When a bunch of gamers are hyped about playing a "new' Smash game, and don't care about any extra fees for online play. Even better of Pokemon comes out near the same time, as they claim it will.

And once you get people to start the subscription service, they are more likely to renew it year after year.

Hmm. I only go online for the Nintendo eShop, these days, at least on my 3DS, so this does not affect me. I personally think there should be no fee, but that has been my belief since the days of the first XBox Live.

I feel like PC cost a good deal more than a console to get a good one. Upgrading isn't to bad a price, IF you know how(or have a trusted friend that knows how) to weigh the part out. I like PC, but will have to stick to my gaming laptop until I have enough money for one.

Anyway, I don't think $20 a year is bad. Less $2 a month. Personally, I play Splatoon online. And Mario Kart, too. Probably not Smash. Unless I play with certain friends, that is. Because I play differently that most people...

Nintendo has been working in the online capabilities. Not sure how much better it is. But again, I haven't had trouble with it since like I think a year ago. So...

Not to mention, I would mind some of the old games. And discounts(which could possibly pay for itself based on the amounts...)
