Are you?

I still remember when blockbuster and toys r us were huge, what do you think was the main reason for toys r us's decline? Did you even still shop there? ever did?

Hell nah.

Pointlessly expensive toys. Refused to roll with the times. About time they got with the program or fucked off.

They fucked off.

Won't be missed.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner considering how they refused to adapt to the changing market, this reminds me of a computer software/hardware retailer by the name of NCIX here in Vancouver where the genius owners insisted on opening more physical stores despite online shopping becoming the norm (plus the prices weren't even cheaper compared to competitors) and it's not surprising they backrupted the business.

So, just because you have eight nephews/nieces, you can speak for all kids in the entire world? A little arrogant, no?

Some kids may be into electronic devices. Some into dolls and Lego. Some into puzzles and board games. Don't make claims that you know are false.

That must be why Walmart is closing all their stores too. Oh wait.

Amazon price matches Walmart is why. But that wasn't my point anyway. I was being sarcastic since the reason Toys R Us went out of business is because they were more expensive than every other store that sold toys.

Also TRU's online storefront had an uncanny knack for screwing up orders.

My only real memory of the store is the time when my brother and I were looking at the SNES games because our mom said we get pick out a new one. We were standing there trying to decide which one we could agree on when an adult couple started to come down the aisle. I busted ass super loud. Without missing a beat I looked at my little brother in disgust and said "William! That's sick. You better go check your shorts."

The couple started laughing and my poor little brother who was easily embarrassed turned bright red. He couldn't even find the words to defend himself. He looked like he might actually cry. The couple turned around and went back the other way and were out of sight before he could say anything.

I used to love Toys R Us. Whenever I got straight A's on my report card in elementary school, my parents would take me there to pick out a few toys. It's been like 15 years since I've been there, but I suppose it's a little sad to see them go.

My nephew and niece still like toys, but they are far more into video games and tablets. Either way, there's cheaper options to shop at for those things.

Still shop there a ton. It is my kid's favorite store. We aren't sure how to break the news to him - he's a little young to understand.

It will definitely leave a void. Walmart, Meijer, Target, etc - they don't have any of the good stuff - just the generic bland toys for the most part.

It's hard for me to be upset about a store closing that I haven't stepped inside of in years.

Like when Sears bit the dust here last year and people were complaining about losing it, and yet every single person I asked hadn't bought something from there in years (or ever).

http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/15/news/companies/toys-r-us-closing-blame/index.html

What killed TRU, roughly in order:
Walmart undercutting its prices
Amazon undercutting its prices, and kicking its ass online
The company going into massive debt to buy itself
Kids abandoning toys in favor of tablets and mom's phone
Low unemployment nudging wages upward

So yes, Donald Trump probably did deal the deathblow to Toys R Us, but it was staggering near death already.

I liked toys r us because they were usually the first place to get new toys based on shows my kids liked when they were younger. They were also a place I could check for hard to find toys. That being said they charged a lot more for pretty much everything. With so many places that you could get the toys a lot cheaper, so if it wasn't a hard to find item there were a lot more options to find it cheaper.

Definite yes; I mean, it still comes as no surprise, but I didn't think it would be happening now of all times. The town where I originally reside is going to have a VERY huge void when our local Toys 'R' Us store closes up shop in a few months.

Not to mention that I feel for all those folks who are definitely going to be out of a job.

Yeah but only because they were around for so long. Truth be told, though, my family were more KB Toys people and, when that closed down, we went straight to Wal-Mart or Target (or the Dollar Store whenever we were super broke) for buying toys and games.

Still, Toys R' Us was still a nice place to hang out at. It was the place where I first discovered WarioWare Inc. and a couple other games which names escape me now.
