So at my job, two of our buildings have Spectrum cable modems. We have been seeing random VPN tunnel bounces since forever and we've been trying to figure out why that is. We recently opened an office in Canada with Rogers as the service provider, and we don't see those VPN tunnel bounces there. At this point, we thought it was possibly because we were using a different model firewall in Canada than we were at our other locations.

Then we moved our store location over to Google Fiber with Spectrum as a backup. No more VPN tunnel bounces after that. So it's pretty much something wrong with something either in Spectrum's network or the modems they use. They opened a dispatch ticket to replace the modem. The dude came out 3 hours late and told us this gem...

The model modem we have is the only one they can use with 300/20 + static IP plans. When they put static IPs on the other model modem they have, it only allows 100 Mbps down at the most and they don't know why. Technicians have been trying to push their management team to find another avenue for modems, but it doesn't sound like they're close to finding that new avenue yet.

I hate Spectrum. Google Fiber needs to hurry up and take over the rest of Austin.
