A topic actually related to the poll -- crazy, I know!

While my employer does allow working from home in certain situations, I find it isolating -- gotta have that social aspect. So I moved.

Old commute: 1 hr 30 min per way (6 min walk + bus + subway across the city + bus)
New commute: 3 minute walk (310m from one door to another. about 0.2 miles)

If your family/financial situation allows it, and you're lucky enough to find something nearby -- do it. It's such a load off your mind to wake up at 7:15am, slowly get ready, and know you'll make it for 8am no problem (even if you hit snooze).

I live 3 miles from work but since it's downtown, I have to drive fifteen minutes to a lot which is about 2 miles from home, pay 5 to park, then walk a mile. So all in all 45 min commute

Those are the best. 15 miles / 25 km can be covered in virtually no time when the roads are empty :)

If that was the case for me I would just walk the extra 2 miles. I mean yea the commute might be longer but you wouldn't have to pay for parking then. Also, 30 minutes to walk a mile?

Anyways, I live about 10 miles from work. Commute isn't that bad and I get to live in a neighborhood with white picket fences and friendly neighbors as opposed to whaling police sirens and a murder every week.

About 20 miles away. Going to work I average a 20-25 minute drive depending on how fast I am driving and the traffic lights. Going home I average 25-30 minutes. It does help that I usually leave around 5:45-5:50am for work and get off work around 3:30-4:30pm and drive against the main bulk of traffic.

25 mins if traffic is light and I make all the green lights, usually 30-35mins, but up to 45 minutes or an hour if traffic is backed up enough. there've been days when it took almost 2 hours to get home, stupid glenmore.

I used to live half the distance and it was so much nicer.

It's 24 miles to my workplace as the crow flies, 28 miles to drive there.

It's a 30-min commute in the morning, 40-min in the evening.

But yeah - I've got a co-worker who lives literally on the other side of the highway from where we work. They talk about just hoofing it to work once warmer weather hits. Rawr!

Public transport in Toronto is kinda meh. You can get everywhere with it, but it takes ages.

Plus it's one of the more expensive systems. The monthly pass is $150. One of the highest of metro cities, yet not very developed.

Damn...it takes 15-20 min to walk a mile, so it sounds like your drive isn't much better than just walking. Can't you use a bicycle on nice days?

Same, mine's about 25 min, and I've had 50 min commute before.
I still would like to reduce it though. It's 12 miles, too far to bicycle (for me...don't want to have to leave super early), if I could cut it down by about 5 miles, it'd be a lot more feasible.

My commute was about 7 minutes to work. I did that for about ten and a half years.

Then I got transferred and it takes about 40 minutes to get to work.

I fucking hate it. Yeah, there are people who have a longer commute and I should be thankful mine isnt longer. But.. ugh.

That actually sounds awesome. My first job was a 50 minute drive. No traffic. Just far, and in the middle of nowhere. I didn't mind initially and always arrived at work early, because I really needed the experience. But after a year, I kinda plateau'd and stopped learning anything new. At that point, it became a chore and the drive became a killer. My next job was 17 miles away, but in the direction of traffic. It got awful fast. I thought about moving closer, but I'm in California and everything is ridiculously expensive.

Thinking about moving somewhere else. I have a friends in Oklahoma. Their apartments are way nice for way less!

So bit of a mix of info here. I was 9km from my old job one way. It was 20 min with traffic or if I drove like a complete asshole and no traffic it was about five. So I have a 6.2L in my Silverado with K&N intake and Borla exhaust. Well, the one time I raced home (it's on a road that's basically one peg down from being a highway that goes onto a highway) and literally watched my tank drink 1/8th of it via the gas gauge. Thirsty monster.

I need to find a new job where I dont have to worry about getting transferred lol.

If I go to the office downtown it is about 22 miles and usually can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on the traffic and what time I leave. Usually the drive home would take longer.

I work from home about 98% of the time though, so I generally have no commute.

I've been there before but you either need to really like the job, or it pays well, or there is potential to work from home within the first year or two.

I'd commute 90 min per way if the job paid over 65K/year lol
