Well 3D World is my least favorite of all the 3D Marios I've played. And that was a fantastic game. Would also probably rate it higher than Generations. SA2 will always be a special game for me though, even if it's pretty stupid.

On the one hand, I hate shooting games at the best of times, and these ones feel particularly clumsy and awkward.

Yeah it's so much fun running around a boring level hoping for an icon to start beeping. It was such an awesome improvement that they decided it would only work for one emerald at a time for some reason.

It was also awesome playing as a clunky robot and holding onto a lock on button while fighting boring enemies for 10 minutes. It's great how the platforming is so tight you never awkwardly fall into bottomless pits because of wonky controls and camera too.

It's my favorite Mario game, but I still think it's the worst one and can see why it's polarizing. If you don't like the water pack or just see it as a lame gimmick, you're going to have a really bad time. And I think the water pack sometimes feels like a different entity from Mario instead of it being an extension of him. You can be great at controlling Mario, but bad at controlling the water pack (or vise-versa). But this definitely doesn't make the game bad. Especially considering the amount of people that aren't bothered by this (including me).

Edit: I should add that I only think it's the worst if we're putting it up against the big Mario games like 64, Galaxy, Odyssey, etc.

The Adventure games are straight trash. Like really bad. I still like them and enjoy some parts like City Escape and the last Chaos fight, the fight where you're skating and fighting Shadow, etc. but overall those games are glitchy messes that play horrendously. You can still genuinely enjoy shitty games though like people genuinely enjoy shitty movies.

Talking from personal experience here, can't speak for anyone else.

They're not the greatest games... but I also remember having SO much fun playing SA2:B on the GameCube. It was only when I went back to play it again I realised how badly they've aged.

No it's not. The games glitch out more often than not, the goal of the series has always been to go fast and this game halts you every chance it gets, most of the bosses suck. I'm strictly being critical of only the Sonic parts to be fair. The other characters are a lot worse.

We wish that Sonic Team had stuck to refining Sonic in this setting, as it would have improved the gameplay greatly. It can almost feel like a rollercoaster at times, offering up limited control, but its altogether satisfying thanks to clever level designs. As noted, however, there is simply not enough of this level type featured throughout the story quest. In fact, we'd guess as little as 30%.

The sad truth is that Sonic Team lost its focus somewhere along the way while bringing Sonic into 3D. The choice to try to offer up so many different types of gameplay has left the idea of Sonic shattered. Sonic Team needn't bring frustrating scavenger hunts and sub-par shooters into this great blue hedgehog's world. Sonic is definitely perfectly suited for GameCube, so we're hoping for a much more ambitious attempt for the next addition of Sonic.

Tails/Robotnik have horrible control. Tey going left from a standatill and watch while they just stand there for a second then kinda go forward in a weird little circle thing. They have legs, FFS. You would think they were cars.

And while the Knuckles part in 1 was already irritating, at least you could see all the pieces at once insread of having to search the whole dang level three times. That Rouge in space level is one of the worst levels in history.

I'd say Sonic Generations was more entertaining than Mario Sunshine, but to each his own I suppose.

Mario 64, Galaxy and Odyssey are of course much better than any 3D Sonic game.

Also I legitimately loved 3D Land and actually think it's better than 3D World.
