It's basically a cash alternative, but
- It's not accepted in most places - It's much more complicated than using cash - The prices/values vary wildly all the time - There are a ton of fees for buying and selling it And I would rather use a credit card to buy stuff online because you can get cash back. --- Shenmue II = best game of all time Shenmue = 2nd best game of all time ... It's basically a cash alternative That's where you're wrong, kiddo. Crypto is basically a stock right now, I know a lot of miners and crypto fanatics (work in a PC parts store) and not one of them has ever even considered making purchases with their crypto. Why would they? The longer they hold on to it, the more valuable it will be. At least, until the bubble pops. But ask any of them, they'll swear there's no bubble... It's useful if you want to buy things you don't want traced back to your credit card. Like porn or less legal things like drugs. Which is is why actual crypto is limited to those shady networks. Right now crypto is about a ponzi scheme to generate money from. There might eventually be a place for block chain, but as it stands it's cost prohibitive.

Because the cost to generate them is still far below the price. There's hardly any coins that reached levels below profitability. Like I said, it depends on what the coin is worth because THAT value will fluctuate wildly whereas the cost to generate it won't. If the value of a coin starts to decrease there will be a time when it dips below the cost to mine.
