Violent, isolationist and misogynist desires course through games and push rightwing ideologies on players

lol good god

in the Bush years, American games endorsed aggressive foreign policy; since Brexit, British games advocate isolationism or nostalgia for empire and the prominence of anti-Islam games in the 2000s tells it all.

First, rightwing ideologies have been overrepresented and dominant throughout the history of video games. Although affected by context, video games have long focused on the expulsion of aliens (Space Invaders to XCOM), fear of impure infection (Half-Life to The Last of Us), border control (Missile Commander to Plants vs Zombies), territory acquisition (Command & Conquer to Splatoon), empire building (Civilization to Tropico), princess recovery (Mario to Zelda), and restoration of natural harmony (Sonic to FarmVille).

also Xcom is in the right too. the person who wrote that probably knows nothing about the plot of Xcom or ever played a single game in the series. it's always been around violent aliens trying to kill or enslave all humanity. in some of the games, if you get a game over you see a cinematic with humans all turned into slaves and mutants and the planet ruined as it's terraformed for alien use. Xcom are good guys defending the human race from destruction

Gamers think the industry is run by SJWs while this guy thinks plants vs zombies is about border control.

People really do see what they want to see.

What a stupid opinion piece.

A perfect demonstration that you can twist anything into any narrative you please if you are patient, selective, and creative enough, though.

He's picking the wrong aspect. Gamergate is really what drove youth into the insane parts of the right wing politics. But video games themselves aren't influencing anyone politically.

Fox News and The Guardian both hate videogames. It figures that when they both finally agree on something, its something completely moronic.

Yeah I think there's a very strong argument to be made regarding Gamergate and the online alt-right, but this is fucking nonsense.
