Do u find being African American is advantage or disadvantage in modern world?

Obvs reference is obvs

But 4 rilly doe u might as well humour me

Just like anything in the world, there are ups and downs.

I live in Washington state, which is one of the only states in the US that doesn't adhere to Affirmative Action (I believe California is the other state). The only thing that was really gifted to me was a great mom and dad.

My dad comes from a horrible background and was pretty much raised in the hood, without a father. I think his mom gave birth to him when she was like 14 or 15 years old. He worked hard, got out of that situation and makes close or more than 6 figs.

When I was younger, we weren't rich or anything. My mom only had a high school education, my dad had tech school training from his military days. My mom gave birth to my sister when she was 18 or 19, and I was born about 3 years afterward. I don't think we were poor when we were young, but we weren't quite middle class.

In comparison to my dad, my upbringing was a cakewalk, however, I don't think I was handed anything on a silver platter.

Basically what I'm trying to get at is that I don't think race by itself made a huge difference on whether or not I had/have any advantages in life. It's all about upbringing and SES status. Of course I've experienced racism, but I'm sure I've received some benefits due to me being black. And a lot of it is attitude.

Now, that's just my personal experience. Overall, yes, being black, in the USA at least, has more disadvantages than advantages. The situations that a lot of blacks are placed in to are extremely hard to overcome.

thanks bro wasn't expecting such a detailed answer

tbqh wasn't expecting a legit answer at all lol
