We have a highrise very valuable condo complex being built. $43 million worth of Condos currently. It was started late 2009, supposed to be finished 2012.

Nearly 9 years later, and all that's done is a giant hole in the ground.

I really do feel bad for anyone who bought one of the condos and is paying a mortgage on a building that doesn't exist.

They built these high end apartments that are really nice but too expensive so no one is renting them and its losing money.

A busy intersection was redesigned and recently finished construction. Before it was a regular intersection.

Now there is a tunnel that goes under the stop light but only people going north can use it. And the tunnel is on the left. So left 2 lanes are for going straight, middle lane is for left turns, and right lane is for right turns or going straight. And on the other end of the tunnel the lanes merge but it's aligned very awkwardly

TL;DR version - Wall collapse in 2011 at sewage treatment plant followed by major flooding 4 months later. Current cost projections of rebuilding project are at least 305% of initial estimates, and work may or may not be behind schedule.

There is a state route in our area that they were looking to build a bypass for since the late 70's but it kept getting bogged down in financing and various protests/lawsuits by property owners. The area gets more developed over time, which makes it even harder to find a route for the bypass. Finally about ten years ago they finally go ahead with a partial bypass, but there is only one overpass on the entire length and all of the other intersections are at ground level with traffic lights, so it doesn't really bypass all that much.
