Both are the mega conglomerates of their respective media, with Nintendo essentially being the Disney of the video game world. But with Disney slowly expanding their empire and near-world domination, will there ever be a day they will become so powerful they could buy out the world's biggest video game corporation?

I don't think so - iirc, Japanese law basically makes it illegal.

Honestly, I don't think they could. Nintendo is probably valued close to what Disney is, and I don't think they would have much incentive to sell, either.

my 30 seconds of googling market caps has Disney at $150B and Nintendo at $50B, and Disney just bought Fox for $52B so from a pure money perspective it seems like they theoretically could

If we check total assets, then Disney got $95.789 billion and Nintendo got $13.749 billion.

So if the question is if Disney can afford to buy Nintendo even at an overprice, then the answer is yes.

not sure why people keep saying this. Japanese companies can be purchased by foreign entities.

SNK is owned outright by Koreans.

And "But Koreans" is not an excuse. I can't find a gaming example at the moment but Google (Alphabet) purchased a Japanese robotics company called SCHAFT, Inc.

No fucking shit they can. Nintendo is very small and is not some mega conglomerate. Wtf.

Disney is going to become the world's largest media conglomerate period once the Fox deal goes through.

This is like asking if Apple can buy GameFAQs from CBS Viacom.

Im pretty sure Nintendo isnt looking to sell ever, even if they do eventually go 3rd party. If anything theyve been stubbornly independent for most of their history to their detriment from a business perspective.

Nintendo will do what investors want them to. They're only independent in the sense that they have no oversight. They're publicly traded and must do what is most profitable for investors. If they start tanking hardcore, their IPs have way too much value to let sink on the ship with them.

I'm not. Their investors were more than happy to force them to go mobile. They will do more if the need arises.

Come on dude we all know topics like this get made just to satisfy the wet dreams of people who wanna see Nintendo get dismantled. Your own post relies on them failing over a long time period. They just tanked hardcore for years with the Wii U.

I can't speak to TC's wet dreams of Nintendo failing. I'm just telling you Nintendo is a business and they do not operate fundamentally different from any other business which is to make money and crush their competition in the most efficient ways possible.

If they cannot crush their competition for some reason, they will still do whatever they can to make the most money.

If it was a privately owned business, that would be a different discussion.
