Brawl's was better, had Ice Climbers and less boring safe choices for new additions

if they weren't afraid to add characters they can't market with current products there are so many more interesting characters they could add

not to mention the basic physics still feel shitty, though not as much as Brawl

Obviously not. It could be a quick port. Or it could be a new title that gets pushed back to late next year.
Like I said, we have too little information to trust that release date. Especially with Nintendo, and especially since only the year is announced. That rarely works out.

Remember when Brawl was going to be out in 2006?
Remember when Skyward Sword was going to be out in 2009?
Remember when BotW was going to be out in 2015?

Rule of thumb: If the game has nothing more than a teaser, there's a good chance it's farther off than they'll say. It's stupid to trust the "2018" release until we get another trailer.

Furthermore for some fans of less popular/more aged/less frequent series, it's exciting because you get to see new content of something that you normally wouldn't. (I.e. Duck Hunt, Game & Watch, Bayonetta, etc...)

BotW and Smash 4 are prime examples to pushed release dates. To that being said, I welcome with open arms to Nintendo releasing 2018 and proving us wrong.

that doesn't mean the game will guaranteed come out 2018 but it does mean that unless unforseen issues that cause a delay in development delay the game's release to 2019 occur, then the 2018 date is pretty solid. Nintendo also very rarely delays games. It's happened before, but extremely rare. This isn't like fucking Sony "Check out this PS3 game lol JK it's a PS4 game"
