For March 8's poll, what were the games that had bad endings and impacted your perception of a game?

For me it was Ghosthunter for PS2, really fun game but the ending was a bit of a mess.

Persona 5. I love the game, but at the end all I could think was "Why is he going back to the people that booted him out and shunned him for doing a good deed? Stay with Sojiro and your friends!"

When I saw that "turn a 10/10 game into a 1/10" option, for all its comic exaggeration, I immediately though of Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.

I think many people will think Mass Effect 3 when they answer that poll. First one I thought of, even though I loved the game up to that point.

MGSV: The Phantom Pain.

Dropped it from being a perfect 100% game to about a 97%. Still very good, the gameplay was absolutely phenomenal, but clearly the ending wasn't actually finished given that the Liquid Snake sideplot was completely dropped.

RAGE's ending makes the game name oh so appropriate. Even if it wasn't a story heavy game to begin with, the ending was so abrupt and disappointing that it killed my will to play the game again for a long time.

I'm not sure this would qualify as a bad ending, but:
I got too emotionally involved in the in Zelda OoT when I played it as a 14 year old, and the end made me feel rather shitty.
Maybe it's pointless, but I wanted to explore the "fixed world" a bit. I realize that's like a bit too much to ask from a game. If nothing else, I would have liked a propper happy ending, not that magical-mystical-philosophical crap of being sent to the bast to be a kid again because you lost your childhood or something. Like, whatever you did doesn't matter anymore. What is supposed to happen now? Will link just convince Zelda to refrain from trying to fix anything because it ends badly? Will Gannondorf just sit idly because he can't get his victory without you? Also, WTF, Zelda! Mario got a kiss and a cake! You got me into this crap for which I risked my fucking life and you are just going to tell me "Good job, I'm so sorry, bye!"??? stingy selfish bitch!

plus that reveal at the end was fucking pointless, and made no sense, ok?

at least as batshit as mgs2 was, it had a point, and it made sense in its own insane way, ok?

story aside, mgsv was fantastic though, ok?

Tons of NES games had bad endings.

Ultima Exodus - for the 100 hours you have to put into it- is basically a static picture and some text.

Ghosts N Goblins gives you a line of text and then makes you replay the ENTIRE GAME all over again to get the "This story is happy end" .

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Gamecube)
Karnov (NES. American version, at least. The Japanese version had the real ending, but it was censored due to religious themes when it came to the US)
And of course, Ghostbusters (NES).

MD was clearly meant to be the middle child of a trilogy, I didnt feel that the ending was bad as much as the game teased enough of the bigger picture that your actions in the game dont feel as important. This wouldnt be so bad if the final game came out a year or two later, but Square put it on ice after it didnt sell as well so youre just left with more questions than answers. Its a shame because it really was a great game but they screwed themselves over with all of the microtransaction BS.

This is the answer. Not only did they release the game without the proper ending, but the ending that was included was also not satisfying. Fuck Konami.

I only ever played Ultima 3 on PC, so I did not know this. So, I guess if I want to play Ultima 3 again, stick to the Apple ][ or MS-DOS version, eh?

better "spoiler" it, just because gamefaqs.gamespot.com
Fight the floor (or "FLOR" on NES).
Do the timelord puzzle thing.
Get the ankh.
Leave Exodus castle (assuming the randomized destruction-effect doesn't block you in).
Credits.

silent hill

the bad ending was probably the most interesting and would have probably been the best one from a story point of view if the sequels didn't exist.

Personally, I have a hard time taking 1/10 reviews seriously. Unless the game/show/movie actually is pure shovelware, it usually comes off as a troll attempt.

well, there are lots of games with unsatisfying endings, but for cases where the end(ing) of the game stands out as its most significant flaw, that's definitely Mass Effect 3 and Rage.
