He's a character built around witty humor and one liners, which is captured perfectly with Holland. It's supposed to be fun and comedic. I didn't hate Spider-man 2 by any means, but he isn't a pathetic virgin-boy when you are comparing him to the source like he's portrayed in this movie. I can see an argument if they made Batman humorous, because it doesn't fit. Spider-man though? Absolutely it does.
