Thats bonkers in my mind. Apparently they might be making one where 15 is the minimum. That's also bonkers in my mind

Weird, Wikipedia says it's always been 15 for decades. Must be some sort of loophole that's being closed.

That doesn't mean they can't or don't have Romeo and Juliet laws, though.

Why would they make a law specifically about killing your lover anyway? Seems needlessly specific.

Yeah, I don't know what TC is talking about. It's 15 in France and has been that for ages.

Afaik it's illegal to have sex with people under 15 but its not considered rape unless it can be proven to be forced. Instead its some kind of lesser charge. The new law changes that and any sex with someone under 15 is able to be charged as rape.

That's what I got from skimming an article earlier tho so I might be wrong

Just read the name. He even got the fact the romeo and juliet killed themselves and not each other wrong. Though would equally be weird to have a law about suicide pacts for lovers.

How is making someone think you're dead and causing them to kill themselves not murder? I bet it's murder somewhere.

Basically laws that state that sexual encounters between people age 15-19 are not statutory rape (in texas at least), despite 15 being under the age of consent in many places.
In some states the law is basically "anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 can have sexual relations, so long as there is no more than a 4 year age difference."
