Lehi.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehi_(militant_group)

They're basically as bad as al-Queda (but definitely not ISIS), but I hadn't heard of them until this week. Seriously, they assasinated officials, and at one point massacred hundreds of people in a village. Why is this group not more well known? Also, Israel gave them amnesty in the late 40s, and eventually gave out Lehi Medals for former members. Isn't this like mainstream Islam condoning ISIS or something? This was a pretty bad group.

Their murder and rape of 200 civilians caused the Palestinian exodus of 1948. Without it, the state of Israel wouldn't have been succesfully established.

They're national heroes, sort of the George Washington of Israel.

I assume they're not more well known because they're tiny and don't attack America or other western european countries.

Same reason I bet most people cannot tell me what country the Khmer Rouge terrorized without looking it up.

DissolvedLate 1948

I assume it's because the group hasn't existed for 70 years.

Founded August 1940

Dissolved Late 1948

What they did was bad. However, they no longer exist and havent done so for 70 years. Theyre not relevant today.

Also lol at trying to imply Al Qaeda is not as bad as ISIS.

I love beautiful pale White, Asian and Arab cis-women, especially their clean bare feet, and the high I get from their aroma.

Nobody talks about how they're praised as heroes in Israel, though. Or that Yitzhak, probably the most popular prime minister of Israel in the West, was a leader of the group.

Edit: nvm on the last bit, confused him with another prime minister.

Nobody talks about them at all, because they haven't existed for 70 years. They're completely irrelevant to modern discourse.

Vlad the impaler is regarded as a hero in Romania. He was a freedom fighters that opposed the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. One person's freedom fighters is another's terrorist.

I feel that there's modern day contexts where Israel praising a terrorist organization is kind of iffy that doesn't apply to pre-modern Romanian royalty.

Some stupid picture

I mean.... I don't see the difference.

Hint: I think both these things are relevant to modern discourse.

We still talk about Japan denying war time atrocities from the same time period [as the Israel thing] so why shouldn't we talk about this?

In the context of religious extremism and imperialism its still relevant.

1. Nobody is denying these things happened, so your Japanese reference is irrelevant
2. There hasn't been a causal link established between this group 70 years ago and the modern treatment of peoples which would put it in the same category as segregation
3. There are a lot of terrorist groups that have existed over time, so if we're going to consider one from 70 years ago relevant to modern Israel, we're going to need to also include all the terrorist organizations that have existed in the past 70 years from all the surrounding countries.

In 1980, Israel instituted a military decoration, an "award for activity in the struggle for the establishment of Israel", the Lehi ribbon.

I'm not sure how this indicates that the existence of this terrorist organization, dispanded long ago as it is, is irrelevant to discussion of Israel's military relation with, in particular, Palestine.

Side note, I've been in two museums in Israel where this terrorist organization were praised to high heavens ala WWII propaganda in the Yushukan museum in Tokyo. One was in Jerusalem and the other in a settlement outside of Bethlehem.

I'm really not sure how one can make the argument that they're irrelevant to the modern day discourse of Israel.
