Yes I spelled it wrong on purpose to get your attention.

Anyway, so my butthurt friend was going on about how people who screwed up their lives have no right or no room to try and give him any life advice. They are fuck ups so they should just live in their hole and shouldn't try to say anything.

I tried telling him that because they fucked up and know what it's like to take the wrong path in life that they're simply telling you not to do what they did. Experience is knowledge. He really didn't see it my way.

What is CE's opinion?

Learning from your mistakes is a very important step in the process of PDSA - plan, do, study, act. Doesn't have to be failures, but you need to reflect and review to essentially test the hypothesis and then make adjustments accordingly.

All depends on what they fucked up on and what their advice is.

Context is important.

I'll never take love advice from someone who beats women

Oh. Well played.

I think it's dumb to dismiss advice from someone solely because of their own lack of success; people are generally really bad at perceiving their own situations properly. You can have someone who is very insightful and knowledgeable about a lot of things and who completely sucks at applying any of it for themselves. The skills that make someone successful at life and the skills that make someone successful at giving other people advice aren't really the same.

if their advice is "look, i fucked up doing that so approach with caution...what i wish i had done was..." and gives you an outline of paths you can take then that's cool. no one's life is exactly the same another's so saying "I fucked up doing that, don't do that" is wrong...

Completely disregarding the advice from someone who has lived it just because they didn't live it in a positive way is also incredibly ignorant.
