im trying to figure out which card i should be using for everyday spend while im on this lull of credit cards. before it was obvious, whichever card i was working on the minimum spend for. but now that i have no goals and not applying for new cards, i dunno what to do

with chase, i have the most UR earning cards, but im limited to their selection. i have the Sapphire Reserve so i can get 1.5x earning, but sometimes thats not the best.

Amex is good, but same problem. also my favorite asian grocery doesnt take amex. annoying.

SPG is the most flexible, but the least earning.. strong.

Yes but he didn't pay that (nor did I).

I mean he did though.

He paid $22 and used some points he got as a part of his everyday spend. That's hardly equivalent to spending $8000 per ticket for two seats on an airplane. If he spent the $16000 in cash I would be on board with you but he just used that as a reference to the value the points gave him. The points used in other ways also would not have had the same monetary value.

Yeah. You'll get declined for most rewards cards if your credit sucks.

I have 11 cards with a total limit of $50,000.

My guess is BM is at about $100k.

Anyway, what rewards cards do you have, BlueMonk? All I really have is the Amazon Prime card, American Express Blue Cash Everyday, and CapitalOne Quicksilver. Maybe one or two others but most of my stuff is sock drawered for my own protection. They're all pretty much just straight cash back which is nice but I wanna fly places damn it.

my credit score is 720, my dude.

more cards = good
more debt = bad

you can have 1 card and have debt and have bad credit. more cards doesn't necessarily mean the same.

i have the chase freedom unlimited, sapphire reserve, and sapphire preferred, which will soon become a freedom. i also have the business ink preferred card. oh and the amazon card, that was my first.

in amex, i have the premiere rewards gold, the amex everyday, the spg card, and the amex blue cash everyday.

i also have a discover it card, a card from my credit union (navy federal), the citi doublecash, and the BoA cash rewards card. i think thats it lol.

i also have like 5 bank accounts.

you should get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/BTSKY-Credit-Holder-Business-Organizer/dp/B01E709QC6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520132657

i use this for all my cards. really nice to keep them organized.

if you wanna fly places, i suggest getting a point earning card. points tend to be redeemable at higher rates that cash. sometimes. like my flight from Korea to the USA is only 40,000 points (400 dollars equiv.). if i did cash back, i would have had to earn 1200 in cash back to get that same ticket. way easier. my flight there is even crazier, costing 80,000 points (800 dollars equiv). for a 8000 dollar ticket, 10 times the redemption!

well its important to remember that if the value you can get from the card >>>>> the annual fee, then its definitely worth it

like my Chase Sapphire Reserve. its 450 dollars a year. but i get 300 dollars in travel credit, and earn 3x on travel and restaurants. so that brings it down to 150 a year. and i get the airline lounge entrance for free. those are normally like $30-50+ dollars per person for entrance (if they let you at all pay for entrance). for me and my spend, its definitely worth it. my point earning is so much that i can easily make that back in using the card and its benefits.

my best example is my chase ink preferred card. it gives you cell phone insurance, on all phones on the bill you pay with it. its $95 a year, whereas tmobile wants $144 dollars a year PER phone. i have 2 phones on my plan so i save 193 dollars! plus i get 3x back on my rent payments, which earn me easily 10k points each time, which i can transfer to my Sapphire Reserve and get 1.5x value from. in one month, ive already earned back the annual fee in value.

with the amex plat, i think you get 200 in airline credit (you can buy gift cards, but you're not supposed to lol), 100 in uber credit, elite status at hotels, tsa precheck/global entry credit ($100), and the earnings of Membership reward which is 5x? plus, theres the sign up bonus, which is what, 50k normally, and up to 75k, 100k if you look around on the internet on how to get them? thats 500-1000 bucks, easy. 100k MR points would pay for our korean air tickets lol.

you just gotta do the math and see if its worth it. if its not, then dont. but in general, the amex plat is mostly for the travel perks like access to the centurion lounge, and the elite status at hotels.

the cards i have with AFs are the sapphire reserve (450), the sapphire preferred (95), the ink preferred (95), the amex gold (195) and our 2 spg cards (95) each. the only af i've paid was the CSR and the Ink Preferred so far, but i made back their cost in value using the card.

fyi, if you want a card with no annual fee thats flexible, earns points that you can transfer to partners, then get the American Express Everyday Card (not the blue cash, the silver one lol). if you have a pulse, amex will give you a card lol, especially since you already have the blue cash version.

gotta pay to play lol

i recently fucked up a sign up bonus lol. it was my gf's spg card. she applied for the card and her application just went dead. nothing for like a month. then like 6 weeks later, after i signed up for my amex everyday card and given up on her SPG card, it just arrived in the mail. i cared more about the amex spend so i kinda forgot about the spg card and i missed the deadline.

oh well. there's always the business versions, and then what next year they're moving to chase? i forget what the rumors were..

lmao who would spend money on business class? Economy is fine. It's a day of shittiness and you save a fortune and can stay on a holiday for longer.

And hostels/airbnb are the way to do it. It's amazing only having to spend like $15 a night and you might heaps of cool people and have fun parties and good times.

If had the choice of a hostel or a super crazy 5 star hotel for free.... I would still go for the hostels.

yeah i didn't buy anything i didn't need.

a big, BIG help is plastiq.com. it lets you pay for things that are check only with a card.

my rental agency only takes check. so, i use plastiq to charge my card. they take 2.5%, and send my agency a check. i only do this if the sign up bonus is more than what im getting. and it always is. 50 bucks for 1000 dollars in value? easy trade

best thing, is that plastiq codes as a business service on my business card.. so it earns 3% back. so i make 0.5%! then if i transfer that to my chase sapphire reserve, i get 1.5x that!

Nice.

I personally used to sell the points, but that was back when shit like that was still possible without getting banned. Brokers would pay 50%-75% of whatever multiplier they'd get. Probably walked away with $100k before cutting down.

However, you spent more like ~$3k. Since at base 1:1, that's still $3k or worth of statement credit points, give or take valuation differences. But an average 7x multiplier is pretty damn good regardless.

if you redeem points for cash, like a credit statement or cash back, its 1 cent per point. meaning 80,000 points becomes 800 dollars. however, ALL business class tickets on United are redeemable for 80,000 points. all of them. since the ticket would have cost me 8000 dollars, i got 10 cents per point, 10 times the redemption.

on the business flight there, they're offering a korean meal or a western meal. i'd like to get the korean meal but i have a feeling it will be bimbimbap and ugh, i can make that at home. but then the western food might not be good.

what should i do.

It's airline food, I can't imagine it being a huge difference one way or the other
