I can see a 15 rating being useful, games like Rainbow Six Vegas, Elder Scrolls IV and other not so violent M games can be put into that category.

I have thought of that but in the US an 18 rating is banned no matter what, so an M18 rating would still be taboo what would your split be like?

I don't see why an 18 rating would be banned no matter what.

The split would be less taboo M games would get the new lower rating while more taboo would get the new higher.

Well, the ESRB and MPAA's 18 rating is not allowed to be sold in stores due to store policies and AO games can't be put on consoles at all. Would your split M be like M16 and M18?

Yes and the majority of M games should fall under that. Only the upper end of current M games should remain under it. Anything with excessive gore or highly controversial themes. Stuff that incorporates harsh themes into its image, not just a game trying to depict a gunfight without pretending there's no such thing as human blood. There are games that make violence the centerpiece and there are games that merely contain it for the sake of completeness.

That's not true. Stores typically don't sell them, but there is absolutely nothing actually preventing their distribution.

An age 15/16 rating and an 18 rating would be best. I like the BBFCs 12/15/18 rating divide.

A 15 or 16 with an 18 would be good, but how would we have an 18 rating not be taboo sadly? We would have to have both stores and consoles be okay with it existing. That sounds tricky.

That didn't help GTA SA from getting ripped from store shelves sadly. That was selling like hotcakes.
