So I had built a pretty decent sized nation but I was surrounded on all sides by other civs I decide that I want to take England out of the game because that were hosting the WC they were to the north so I send my army up there attack and every nation I border declares war on me. Two the west one to the South and one to the east. I'm like oh shit this just got interesting I send some unit to defend the border city's and continue my assault on England the two civ to the west are flooding my Western city with troops and tbh are winning some turns later I take London and the two civs to the west offer peace and one of there city's each. Fucking why tho they were winning that makes no sense. Things were getting interesting then they just give up and give me there shit when they were winning. *Rant faqs*

What did your army look like? And how did theirs?

The Civ V AI is limited in that when it fights a war, it only counts total military strength of each side and not anything else, and even then it puts more emphasis on the number of units instead of what units they are, what tech level they're at, and where exactly in the world those units are actually located.

Most likely, if you were fighting a war on several fronts yet were holding on well enough, you were pretty strong militarily out of all of them, moreso if you succeeded in destroying one of the fronts and capturing London. Those two western civs probably were throwing everything they had at you and you were being somewhat pushed back, but they didn't count just their front and added your units in every other front as well(which would likely overwhelm them by a lot) and thought they were going to get creamed even though, tactically speaking, you can't afford to commit all those units to fighting the west.

TL-DR: It's just an AI limitation, the Civ V AI is pretty terrible at waging war. You actually can't lose militarily to the AI in this game unless you play at the highest difficulties and/or played like a dunce and let them technologically eclipse you so they're sending tanks at you while you've just barely invented guns.

I had basic guns and cannons they had pyke man and trebuchets. They had the numbers though I only had a token force guarding the west while my main force was fighting in the North. But the Western nations were winning slowly but surely. It just doesn't make sense to starting a war be on the winning side then basically surrender.

As I said, it's an AI limit.

They should have only counted your forces on your western front, but instead they counted your forces on the west, plus the ones on other fronts, plus the forces you used to stomp England. Maybe you had the numbers over them instead, if you actually committed all of your forces to fighting this side only.

Plus, if you had Musketmen and Cannons against their Pikemen and Trebuchets then you clearly had the tech advantage here; they must have been racking up considerable casualties and thought this war wasn't worth it if they're going to lose anyway in case you decided to get serious on them(which you weren't until now). Maybe they saw you take London and figured the war on that side is now basically over, and that you'd send everyone on that side to fight them.

True and I get that I'm just annoyed that I thought this was gonna be a interesting war because I thought I generally could lose this time or at the very least maybe lose some territory because the east and South declared war on me as well but did fuck all
