Why? She already paid Disney back in 2 years what they (Disney) paid for the entire franchise for initially.

I am just going to add this to the list next to Marvel movies eventually going to get played out.

No it isn't. Nobody is buying the merchandise at all and TLJ is the most divisive Star Wars movie ever.

Marvel is different because there's a whole universe that has been woven since IM culminating in the eventual confrontation with Thanos. Tons of different types of superhero stories interlinking into a legit functional feeling fictional universe. To the point, they can even stand on their own now.

Star Wars is just picking up after Lucas already fucked it up, and then just slinging shit on a board with different directors and agendas hoping something sticks. They're just gonna pick random points to tell stories.

You have Feige taking reign over every piece of MCU work, and you have his counterpart Kennedy just giving directors free reign like Rian Johnson. That's gonna dilute it and space operas aren't exactly big outside pretty much Star Wars.

Star Wars has theme parks, video games, novels, comic books, TV shows, clothes, costumes, and billion-dollar grossing, highly reviewed movies. Who cares that people aren't buying as many toys? Who cares about a vocal minority when the majority of critics and general audiences really enjoyed TLJ?

Its definitely not a vocal minority that didnt enjoy TLJ. Its the most split up Star Wars probably ever and I havent actually met anyone in person that actually liked it. Whereas with TFA, everybody was talking about how much they liked it.

I mean, it is kind of annoying how women seem to be seizing up IPs that were initially more geared towards men. Are there even any IPs out there that primarily catered to women that you could warp to appeal to men? Would the feminists be ok with that or would it be problematic?

Just a genuine question.

One of the worst thing in the world according to many posters here is when a franchise "caters to SJWs", or "caters to <x demographic>". Shockingly, it turns out that it's not the catering that's wrong, it's just that they're not personally being catered to. Whoda thunk?

I believe this outrage boils down to something similar to the outrage other groups feel about cultural appropriation. Star Wars was never specifically only for males, but the reality is that males in the 70s and 80s were the primary consumers of both the movies and related merchandise such as action figures, video games, posters, comics and novels. These nerds, if were speaking frankly, bought Star Wars, played Star Wars and lived Star Wars, going by the popular fan conventions and such. Now that ownership of Star Wars has shifted to Disney, the company is focused on broadening their customer base to young girls and women, which you can see in their T-shirts emblazoned with The Force is Female and Director J.J. Abrams admitting that they wanted the new trilogy to bring in a more female audience. This is understandable. Disney is super good at making money and they paid billions for the Star Wars franchise, so they obviously want to make that money back and more. Unfortunately, some of those male fans are either confused or frustrated that what they previously considered their domain, well, no longer is that. Marvel did the same thing by repackaging their comics to feature a woman Thor, woman Captain Marvel, woman Iron Man and so on.

Personally, I dont really care and this has all just been amusing to watch unfold. Ill still watch whatever looks interesting and its not as if were being forced to buy anything. I knew Star Wars Battlefront was all style and no substance, so I didnt buy it. No outrage needed.

A shame to see someone like that in charge of a property like Star Wars. What is this obsession with taking away properties from males? I can understand wanting to gain a foothold or make something approachable to general audiences, but why do people look at properties where the cast and fanbase are predominantly male (Ghostbusters) and say, "Let's make this female exclusive"?

What next, remakes of TV westerns with all black casts? Gotta take those dead franchises away from the dominant majority.

Considering my friend was a Star Wars fan and the new movies made her lose interest in the series...I'd say Kathleen's new direction is a terrible idea.

Edit: Despite her quote being horribly paraphrased, I still stand by what I said. Something went wrong that caused fans in general to lose interest in the series. I still enjoy them, but it can't be denied that it happened.

Well yeah, but it's a statement that implies male fans are just sexists complaining about their all-male club being broken up instead of merely reacting to sexism.

Like, it's pretty rare to find someone actually advocating a male-dominant Star Wars because girls are icky or whatever.

They also twisted this shit around when that fan made an all-male cut of TLJ mostly to show how much more screen time women got than men just to prove a point, but then every tech/entertainment news outlet said the same thing: "THIS SEXIST FAN MADE HIS OWN ALL-MALE VERSION OF STAR WARS BECAUSE HE HATES SEEING FEMALE CHARACTERS".
