When I started this hobby pretty much every game was a buck or two. Now these same games are 20-50 a piece. Fuck this overpriced hobby.

I'm not sure I understand the point of it but I guess that goes for most kinds of collecting.

It's BS. A lot of these collectors do it just for a supposed future payday that's not coming. You got good games just sitting on shelf (maybe still in the box/wrapping) while there are plenty of fans out there who want to play these games.

Hah, playing games. What crazy talk.

True and also this hobby just makes you realise how shit most games are. 700 NES Games, only 150 max are worth a damn to try out.

Especially when those games are easily available elsewhere like the virtual console or otherwise

I never "collected" retro games, but I just had some that I had bought super cheap in the late 90's.

It was pretty nice selling them all a few years ago for a huge payday since I know the bubbles gonna burst pretty soon.

Supply and demand. New generations want to own a piece of their hobbies history.

I dunno, in my experience it depends really heavily on what you are trying to collect

And the best/rarest have always commanded a premium

I dunno why you'd ever collect for the purpose of playing rather than displaying in like 99% of cases, I guess there are some old games that don't emulate well but eh
