Whether it's mainstream or independent, I never hear about the failure of the job market beyond the idea that there are a lack of jobs out there. No one talks about the annoying applications and questionnaires that only are active for 60 days on company websites. No one talks about how people with college degrees still have trouble finding even minimum wage jobs (for fear that they might leave the company or due to hiring managers not wanting a competitive employee who's more qualified than them). No one discusses the lack of mobility in the job market generally. I think this is mainly due to the fact that people can't be aware of all the jobs available to them at any one time. Unless you're trying to be a doctor, lawyer, accountant, nurse, or welder (or someone involved in some other trade) you're probably just looking for ANYTHING that pays sufficiently. Well it would be nice if companies could have access to a database of resumes to contact people to then go and apply on their website so that perhaps there can be some confidence in applying. I don't want to waste time. Companies always waste my time with a drawn out process and not even an interview or email or any response. Wtf...

Why can't I submit my degree to bypass their silly questionnaires that everyone with half a brain would lie on? I mean if you can get through college, surely you can understand the answers these companies want you to put down. There are so many problems.

Well I can tell you it looks really weird when an over qualified person applies for a job, we do usually toss those because it makes no sense. Just this week I had a guy with a degree from Illinois University and Duke. Like why the fuck are you applying for a cashier job when you have two degrees.

Probably. But why would I want to pay a guy more money for a position that an idiot could do equally well in for less pay

Because they want to put food on the table and a roof over their head. Don't beat them up just because they couldn't get a job in their field of study. Not everyone has that luxury. At the end of the day, they just want to pay the bills.

Who's saying you have to pay them more money?

Generally people with education and/or experience expect more money. It's easier to hire someone with none of that and pay them the minimum instead of hiring the college graduate and having to haggle a higher wage for a job that anyone could do. It's just the easier road to take

What if they put 'minimum wage' in the expected rate of pay field on the application

I have never had anyone do that or be that desperate. I would give them a chance if they were that desperate I suppose

There are a lot of places that don't ask for an expected rate of pay. Tbh, I never thought that pay was negotiable for a job that pays minimum wage across the country to thousands of people...just thought it was common sense to accept the minimum rate. Gotta start somewhere. Society is ****ed. It makes no sense that a guy who has two college degrees should ironically be trapped in that he can't get a job in his field, and can no longer get a bottom of the barrel job either. So we're supposed to become a country of homeless scholars? Lol.

As easy as these jobs may be, I find it easier to solve problems when I'm in a predicament where I'm not paid a living wage as every human should be. This puts me into a sort of problem solving mode, and on high alert...like in a survival mode. Get the smart, educated people in these positions and perhaps they can figure some things out for these companies. Or not, because not even a high school dropout is respected adequately if he can't support himself working full time.
