People generally get warnings because not using the turn signal is just an excuse to pull someone over in the hopes the traffic stop will evolve into something more like drugs, drunk driving, etc. It's a classic tactic

When someone cuts in front of me without signaling, I usually return the favor so they realize how much of a douchebag they look doing it.

I swear if I was a CHP officer I would do nothing but give out tickets for people not using their turn signals. Including to other CHP officers, that made me real mad when I saw it.

So normally when pulling out onto a road with multiple lanes you should be able to pull out into a clear lane even if the others lanes have cars. This is incredibly unsafe in Michigan because of how rare it is for people to use turn signals when switching lanes. I used to work at a dealership where the entrance was right next to a highway on ramp. So many people would merge into the right lane without signaling so you normally had to wait for the road to be completely clear before going... but if you had a fast car that could catch up with traffic real quick you were fine. This dealership only sold nicer cars that were all quick so I took advantage of this. I would wait for someone to merge without indicating (I never really had to wait too long for that) and cut right in front of them. I'd go fast enough to make sure they wouldn't hit me, but slow enough to piss them off. Then, of course, they'd get back into the center lane to try pass me but 9/10 times the car I was in was quicker so I'd block them out and they'd have to pass up the on ramp. In the several years I did this I successfully did this countless times. Always felt good.

I've actually had that happen to me a couple of times. Still use them though.

Two things stand out to me from driver's ed but a lot of people don't understand.

1) The merging lane is to get up to speed for the freeway/highway whatever. Don't go snail pace (unless it actually is snail pace).
2) Signals are to signal you want to move...before you move.

Some people are dicks and won't let you in if you signal. God forbid you let someone in and now you're 1 car behind.

Yeah sometimes you just have to be aggressive when you're turning. Being passive will just lead to you missing the turn or waiting forever for asshole drivers to let you in. If it's a busy freeway/highway/parkway and you need to turn, put on your signals and turn as soon as it's clear, don't hesitate, it's not like the cars will speed up if they see someone merging in the lane because if you go to court, now its their fault and wherever they are going is not worth the fines and legal fees

Ive never seen a cop use a turn signal to change lanes. And few pick up trucks. I hate people who drive pick up trucks and think the rules of the road dont apply to them.
