Not sure what you mean.

Like, are you insinuating people will trophy shame you if you look up how to get one?

i'm just wondering if people think it takes away from the fun of it. some achievements can be pretty obscure though.

Most of the games I play are pretty clear with how to get achievements. The games that are vague in this department are the exception, not the rule (Sonic Mania comes to mind)

Some trophies would be damn near impossible to get if you didnt know what youre supposed to do.

this. if you're a trophy hunter it's generally accepted that looking up trophies ahead of time. Trophy hunting is different than blind-running 100% a game.

Pretty much. I've missed achievements because I either didn't know about them until after it was too late or I didn't know how to get them.

For the record, I use TrueAchievements.com all the time, especially when going for collectible achievements since they're not always on the map.

I try and avoid reading spoiler lists but yeah, knowing what to do helps.

Some trophies have unrelated text. Like for tales of vesperia (ps3 imported version) one is like "travel 5120 km - you traveled enough to go around the world many times over" while there's others like "accomplished battle mission 3! Congrats!" but you wouldn't know what battle mission 3 is without a guide or luck since it requires doing something specific during a boss fight. Some are easy, disrupt x attack with your own. While others are like... Use Karol's modified hammer skill to cure poison on the boss after he inflicts himself with it to deal more damage.

I only look up beforehand if there are any missable achievements or any that take multiple runs to accomplish. Once I make note of those, I play blind just doing everything I can. I do like the feeling of getting an unknown achievement.

For what it's worth, there's some instances of trophies changing between versions. Ps3 version of kh1.5 and 2.5? You get some trophies for watching the movies. 1.5+2.5 collection on ps4? Not at all. But they also made it so you have to watch or skip through 358/7 for some boss cards in re com while the original ps2 and (from what I've been told) ps3 version required completed kh1 FM files.

And then you have ones which share lists through the ports. And others where each port has its own list. Like, I could import an EU Skyrim copy and get a third platinum trophy for it in a week or two.

Speaking of skyrim, the fact there ARE trophies means people might look at the list and realize they missed an entire faction, or wonder where the rest of the daedric quests are. So they can help you realize there's more to do. There's also ones where they totally force you to make several files. Like see all the factions through the final mission in new Vegas. For what it's worth I originally rented it for a week just to play through in hardcore for trophies and ended up buying it later when the complete collection released.

Reading up the list is fine. They do cover up the spoiler ones generally.

I do think people who follow collectible guides for their first playthrough or whatever are ruining the experience for themselves though. But that's different.

Imagine actually caring about dumb crap like trophies/achievements.

As of a few months ago, people registered with some site actually get credit to the PS digital store for certain milestones. It's like every other platinum, 10 golds, 25 silvers or 100 bronze trophies and each of those is worth like $5. Meaning that you can GameStop rent, platinum some easy game and be 1/4 to 1/2 way to the next interval for the first three types. Then there's games like undertale where it's like $10 on sale and you can platinum it in an afternoon and don't even have to beat it to do so.

It doesn't work retroactively, meaning those top 100 trophy earners won't suddenly get several hundred to a thousand dollars of digital cash.
