If it's for a game I like, I'll spend as much money to get all the stuff. I have a lot of disposable income so it doesn't hurt me TBH

I spent probably over 150 dollars on SFV + DLC lol

Solid expansion that adds lots of meaningful new content while also serving new fresh ideas, venturing new territory = buy season pass
Paid Cosmetic DLC and other = no thank you
Good but paid DLC = I'll think about it
Free DLC = yes thank you
Mediocre or worse expansion that costs over $10 = gtfo

If I like the game, and I like what the DLC offers, i'll buy it.

Even if it's cosmetic DLC for like $5 i'll buy the ones I like.

Games like R6 Siege, Gears 4, with hundreds of skin packs, i'll maybe buy 3 or 4 to mix it up.

Games like Fallout, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Battlefield, i'll buy the most expensive edition before launch.

This basically. It's hard to really pinpoint my standards as it also depends how much I liked the game.

I love cosmetic DLC, especially on a free game. I have spent a lot of money on League of Legends.

DLC that adds a ton of content I like a lot. Blood and Wine, Blood Dragon, Skyrim DLCs, etc.

Map packs and others on that level are absolute shit and should never be bought. Just because of the price. Paying for new maps is fine, paying 10-15 dollars for three maps is not.

I buy map packs mainly because my friends do, and I want to play with them on those maps. They are a bit pricey but sometimes worth it. Like the resistance DLC for WWII

Can it be worse than several palette swaps on-disc being labeled as several dlc items for street fighter iv (and then make it incompatible with super street fighter iv making people buy them again)?

I think DLC is an excellent concept, that allows devs to add in new content that they were unable to initially.

However, it is often abused these days with companies holding back content that's even FINISHED with the initial release, and selling it desperately. :/

New Vegas is probably the pinnacle of good dlc. Improves the core game without making all vanilla items and perks worthless. Can change how you play for a few different reasons, given the weapons and perks. And it had enough pieces in them that you can stick to just one and still get a good bit of fun for the price. That said, lonesome road and owb were just phenomenal for different reasons and both covered recurring themes in the franchise - dark, drab hopelessness and of course, quirky post apocalyptic science mayhem. And of course the writing linked them together so you'd want to try playing them all. Then there was the gun runners arsenal pack, changed weapons dramatically with new ammo types and weapons, plus those challenges that made you try things you may not have considered the possibility of (like kill Benny with his own gun, requiring you disarm him).

Map packs can be good but I hate those "players will only be matched with others who have the same selection as you" nonsense systems. Made it impossible to play with anyone in mw3 more than a month or two after blops2 came out.

Then there's some cosmetic ones that can be nice if priced right. Tales of games had great prices but then they locked all alternate outfits behind a pay wall and stopped doing the battle theme change with them, which was the other reason you'd consider buying an outfit.

Free ones still can be bad. See: ffxiii-2 and lightning returns and the 6+ different outfits and items that got locked behind pre-orders from different sites. and most only were sending out the codes when the item was available and paid for. And even the ones that got made available for purchase later were still moot for the most part.

There's also a few US versions of games that made outfits dlc pay wall locked but in Japan were available in game for free if you had a save file for other games, though admittedly some of those times the other games never got brought to the US.

DLC for the sake of being DLC is stupid af.

Like, when the "DLC" is actually already finished and in the game's code from Day 1 but you still have to PAY to unlock it? Fucking stupid.

I have no problem with DLC that's developed after the game's released and expands on an already completed game, like the expansions you'd see on PC games back before DLC was a thing.

However way to many companies plan out and develop DLC alongside the development of the main game, and have no shame in doing it, essentially turning $60 games into $70 or $80, especially since way too often those DLCs are not optional extras, they're integral the the main game (looking at you Javik). Those companies and their DLC can fuck right off.

If they're practically whole extra games (see: GTA 4, The Witcher 3), hell yes.
If they're good extra content (see: Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Oddworld: New n Tasty), also hell yes.
If they're okay extra content and really cheap (see: Saints Row series), eh, I'll probably grab it if / when it's on sale.
If it's something like "wow fancy looking car that doesn't do anything special for $4107578645.30", nah, get fucked.

Overall, my opinion is negative. But I grew up on games that just released everything on the disk/cart and anything on the game you either earned through play or unlocked with cheat codes.

Maybe I'm an old fogey now, but I don't like this spending extra money to unlock stuff that probably should've been in the game in the first place.

Let's not pretend they don't deliberately cut content out of games to sell it back to us later. All that on-disk dlc or day one dlc. I remember Mass Effect 3 and Javik.
