The 30s and 40s were objectively the worst. The Great Depression and WWII. Really hard for "social media drama and vapid consumerism" to top that.

As far as tragedies, no. Not by a longshot.

If you are talking about society as a whole, then yes. We have coddled people who are easily offended at every single thing you can think of on one side and we have a fool and his idiot cohorts running this country on the other end. The US is getting shit on by both political spectrums and nobody knows or wants to fix the problems.

i think i enjoyed the music more from the early to mid 2010s in general but i am still finding a lot of good music.

as far as quality of life i think years from best to worst would be

2018 (so far) - good career, travel, great financial well being
2012 - fun, college
2013 - fun, college
2017 - some travel, mental and spiritual improvements
2016 - lost weight gained in 2014/15, took care of myself
2011 - good year, first major relocation, college
2010 - long term relationship ended, depression and denial
2015 - gained weight, depression
2014 - grandma & grandpa died, depression

as far as how i rate decades i don't really pay attention to the political environment but instead focus on my well being and development. i definitely do feel as if things were much better politically before 2015. i remember a lot of people started freaking out about the paris attacks and things spiraled from there at some point.

i doubt this is the worst decade ever, it could have been better but it's been solid so far. i have a lot of nostalgia associated with the 2000s so it's difficult to really fairly judge it. i think that gets more pronounced as time goes on, same with the 90s.

Great Depression
The Dust Bowl
Sino-Japanese War
Hindenburg explosion
Start of WW2
