Was it a part of your REQUIREMENTS to take, specifically, a biology and/or chemistry class to graduate?

My school made it a requirement to take at least Biology, and either Chemistry or Physics
People who didn't take both Chemistry and Physics generally started Freshman year with like a general science class

Me personally, I took Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to fulfill my 3 Science credits

Both. I also took Marine Biology instead of physics because my school required 80 hours of community service to graduate and that class offered some community service hours.

I don't remember.

That's a good way to dissuade people from ever wanting to volunteer in the future.

In Alberta, we only need one 30-level (12th grade) science in order to graduate. It can be Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or general Science.

I did Chem, Bio, and Physics to the 30-level because it looks good for getting into university.

High school here uses a "profile" system, which gives you a set of mandatory classes and some choice to fill up your hours.

I did "Nature and Health" which meant I took Biology (only one level) and had to do Physics, Chemistry and Technical Mathematics at level 1, but chose to do level 2 as well for Chemistry and Mathematics. I filled up my remaining hours with informatics, because we had to get at least one fully optional subject.

The alternatives were "Nature and Technical", which meant Physics, Chemistry and Technical Mathematics at level 2. MEaning, yes, those with Biology would have been considered a "double profile".

Opposite "nature" was "Culture and Society" and "Economics and Society", focussing on non-science subjects. I forgot whether they actually got a science subject as a continuation of the generic science subject everyone had to do before starting their profiles.

Edit: Profiles started in year 4. Meaning everyone regardless of profile choice got basic physics in years 2 and 3 and basic chemistry in year 3.

I needed 3 but I decided to take electronics as a substitution in my Jr. Sr. years.

It also got me out of health, math, language, art and music.
