FOH. As if you wouldn't be jaded and angry as fuck if you had to endure 1/10th of that shit.

Tell that to MLK. Maybe you just don't understand why ppl respect MLK. Malcolm X was basically a black klansman.

MLK was considered divisive in his time too, or are we forgetting that he was also assassinated?

He was killed for pushing equality not because he wanted to wage a race war.

Both are the same thing to oppressors. Even now we have people explicitly stating that they're protesting the flag because of police brutality and the people they're aiming their protest at only hear stuff about disrespecting the troops.

Nah, he didn't accomplish anything and had an attitude of racism and resentment that was largely the same reason BLM imploded and didn't ultimately make a difference. Black people would have been much better off if X never existed.

MLK was beginning to change near the end. He famously stated that he believed that he may have led his people into a burning house.

And to say that Malcom X was a black klansman is ignorance on steroids.

He was and thats why only certain ppl respect him. MLK never had to "change" and much wiser than X.

Yeah, that's ignorant and shows that you don't know much about either man. Malcolm X preached self defense even at the height of his militancy. He never told people to bomb churches or burn crosses or crescent moons on their yards or any of the other things that the KKK did regularly during that time.

He wanted to kill the whites and establish black only territory same for klansmen. He didnt have the followers to achieve his goals tho.

Because Malcolm X wasn't about turning the other cheek and that scared white folks. Anything that is unapologetically black is viewed as threatening. MLK was hated back then too, only nowadays they put him in a nice and neat little package and pretend that he was always a beloved figure in society that just got shot by a lone virulent racist.

I dont get it. You poke a bear and you expect it to not react ?

White people were treating Malcolm x and our fellow black people like dog shit and youre saying hes wrong for responding? Klansman simply wanted to kill black people because of their skin color. If injustice didnt happen, Malcolm wouldnt want to kill white people for no reason like the kkk does.

Maybe because he said Kill whitey?

As a reaction to the constant racial injustice that he and Black people were facing back then. That would make anyone jaded.

And as mentioned, he changed after he went to Mecca.

I know and remember very little about Malcolm X unfortunately, but I can understand it if he had hatred for white people. I don't think its a good thing, I don't condone it, and I don't think its right, but I can understand why he felt that way and I wouldn't judge him for it, all things considered. There's a lot of factors at play there. And if he changed after going to Mecca, that's kind of a big thing, you can't really hold his beliefs against him too much if he changed them.

MLK didnt resort to violence and wasn't about revenge, he just wanted to be treated fairly. Malcolm X coined the phrase "by any means necessary". Being a predominately white country that just didn't/doesn't sound like anything to get behind.

FYI violence wasn't the go to strategy for Malcolm X either, despite what you've probably been taught. And yes, he wanted to stop being treated like garbage for no reason and was willing to do what it took if peaceful means didn't work and he needed to defend himself. You should be have more concern and contempt over the fact that peaceful means means weren't working than about him being fed up and willing to fight fire with fire. I don't understand what you were trying to say with your last sentence.

MLK understood why riots happened, calling them "the language of the unheard." He didn't vilify or condone them, but he understood that they're just a natural evolution of continued protest. He also said things like this....

"Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn. The reality of substantial investment to assist Negroes into the twentieth century, adjusting to Negro neighbors and genuine school integration, is still a nightmare for all too many white AmericansThese are the deepest causes for contemporary abrasions between the races. Loose and easy language about equality, resonant resolutions about brotherhood fall pleasantly on the ear, but for the Negro there is a credibility gap he cannot overlook. He remembers that with each modest advance the white population promptly raises the argument that the Negro has come far enough. Each step forward accents an ever-present tendency to backlash.

And this....

"First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

and this....

"But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?...It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity."

So... you think you know what you're saying, but I can assure you that you don't.

You're not doing a great job at remembering either of them. You treat Malcolm X's statements as being in a vacuum and you selectively read the quotes I posted. If MLK was remembered well, people wouldn't be citing crime statistics whenever people protest use of force from cops.

If anybody thought I was lying in my other post...Malcolm X is quoted at the end. Also important to note he was mostly just a mouthpiece for Elijah Muhammad, just way more charismatic and well spoken.

I guess racism is okay if you've been wronged.

Ok? No. Understandable? Absolutely.

I can't remember how many times people on here have said they were bullied by black people in school and how it caused them to start resenting them so I don't see why that's such a logical leap to some people.

Did you think it was okay in that instance?

if society was neutral and treated black and white people equally, you would have a point here.

it isn't and it doesn't. so you don't.

No one quoted it because we know about it and no one is defending that. Nobody said he was perfect.

I already said what he meant in that first paragraph but, let's hear your interpretation?

Literally the exact quote is what he meant, not your saccharine interpretation.

Just another thought, it's funny when discussing historical figures, people always come in saying "We can't judge historical figures for their abhorrent views because their views were influenced by the times that they grew up in"

Strangely that logic doesn't apply to Malcolm X for some reason. He hit a little too close to home perhaps?

Maybe because he said Kill whitey?

Then he went to Mecca. I dont blame him at the time either. You cant control someones reaction when youre getting oppressed and treated like literal dogs.

MLK Day same person pretty much

Thats disrespectful as fuck.

He just changed at the end of his life and when he did nobody gave a fuck about him anymore. He is famous for his Nation of Islam days, and he stayed with them for most of his adult life. Calling white people genetically modified mutants created by a mad scientist can be a bit of a mental hurdle.

At the time, the Mormon church was saying the same thing except about non-whites so there's more context to that than you're giving it. I mean, I think both suggestions are stupid, but his stance isn't unique.

"people" are mad that Black people are excited about Black Panther. that level of insecurity would never allow a straight forward, no-nonsense guy like X get a holiday.

Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and guys like them tend to cause distress to fragile souls with their minds alone.

Yeah, Colin Kaepernick can't even take a knee without causing the tears to flow either.
