(to clarify topic title for the pedants among us, mass murdered by a shooter).

serious question. it is not these school shootings that surprises me with inaction, but the fact that six months ago a mass shooter attacked the national GOP house baseball team, nearly killed the majority whip, and that prompted no action (aside from increased security detail for all house members).

when our leaders do not take action even when they are, themselves, at risk, i tend to be surprised. children are nbd--their kids are at private schools with maximum levels of protection, so it's not a concern that affects them directly, and policy-making in america is primarily a mix of personal impact and financial contribution based influence.
