Shit hole without free speech trying to bring a civil case against a book publisher and for some reason the suit isn't doa.

Also apparently they changed some "objectionable" words in other books and they think that's peachy and not a creepy totalitarian way of shitting on the author.

This is kinda like suing Warner Brothers over their racist cartoons way back when right? I guess the best thing to do in this case is just have future publications of that book that contain a warning like those Loony Tunes compilations that have those racist cartoons.

sOklpJa

Total censorship and suing the publisher is not the way to go. Also, any follow up to this? This videos are from 2011.

that ain't worth suing over
that's an ugly ass history lesson

im black and i hate old racist cartoon shit like that, but it happened
thats important to acknowledge so present day people understand there's reasons things needed to change
even Disney got their hands dirty with that crap
remember them racist caricature crows in Dumbo? And Song of the South

you don't see that shit all over the place now do you
cause we remembered
covering it up won't do anybody good, presenting it in proper context will, like education on historical racism

Censoring history is one of the biggest crimes we can do.
Once we start, where will it end?
Who gets to decide what to censor?
We've always been at war with Eastasia.
Martin Luther King talked about giving blacks more rights, that implies that we allowed racism back then, thereby we must remove all traces of Martin Luther King in history.

See it for what it is, a reminder of how much we have changed for the last 100 years.

And this as well. They were basically torturing the natives and even maiming them just to make them mine more precious minerals.

Those who did not meet the quota had parts of their hands chopped off.

I'm usually in a quandary as to censoring stuff like this even coming up. Like I'm old enough to have had Song of the South and the crows of Dumbo (though I was a kid so I didn't get the connotations of it at the time) whereas most of the Looney Tunes were older than I was alive. The most "controversial" thing in Looney Tunes when I was watching them was cross dressing. But I don't see any of these really in a large circle of popularity. Only getting mentioned when someone wants to censor or try and wipe them from existence. Seemingly giving them more light than they should get.

Yes, these things existed, and as the advisory from WB, southernfatman posted, they were a product of their time. So leave them in that time and not give them the attention they don't need, I guess.

Side question, why the fuck had production companies been trying to save the series? (Other than the obvious making a buck)

Didn't they have a cartoon out a few years back? I'm not pro-censorship but let the character stay in history.

Well in Belgium and France, Tintin is basically their equivalent of Mickey Mouse. Perhaps the most recognizable fictional character in existence for them.

That's so much better than on the Disney Treasures releases where they just have Leonard Maltin yapping on about that exact same sentiment, but much less elegantly put and it's also Leonard Maltin yapping.
