Growing up they were no good at sports and the jocks were the popular kids. To make up for this they decided that sports were for dumb people and that videogames, anime, dressing like a furry, watching mlp etc is what the smart kids did.

Then after high school ended and people really stopped caring they didn't because they never learned how to socialize and now they just walk around saying "why won't women sleep with me. I'm smart. Why's she with that douche bag that spends his Sunday watching sports ball! Lol"

I was born with playing and watching soccer as a child so I still enjoy and hype the World Cup and Euros. I can't keep track of sports every week so no UEFA or league stuff.

I like hockey when Canada/ Vancouver is on route to win something big (for patriotic reasons duh).

There are so many advanced statistics in sports nowadays that it can seem pretty nerdy if you go in-depth.

That's basically what fantasy football is

Yeah, I enjoyed the math, odds, and statistics so much that I branched off into fantasy hockey and baseball also. You don't even really have to watch a lot of the sport to read into and understand the numbers and odds. I joined a fantasy basketball league one year, maybe watched a dozen NBA games in my entire life, and made it to the championship of a 12 team league just playing the numbers and being proactive with waivers.

There's definitely a bit of nerdy to it if you get real into it, and can make some money in the process.

If you guys knew how complex the NFL was - you'd love it. The different offenses and defenses teams run. All the scheming...

And add to that: the 16 game regular season schedule. Less is more. Each game is high stakes and intense. Each play is subject to scrutiny. I love it.

Compare to the other whored out major sports in America (sorry, but it's true - they expanded their schedules for hundreds of games to maximize profit), you lose the high stakes nature and intensity of watching it.

What? Literally any sport becomes fun to watch once you know the complexity behind the sport. It's just just exclusive to American Football.

World Cup soccer, some Olympics.

I agree to an extent, but it applies to just about all sports. Also you can get this in college ball, not just the NFL, and college is generally more entertaining minus all the egos and criminals.

I'm heavily invested into pro football and baseball, and college football and basketball. I go to games, watch games on TV, have a fantasy football team, watch at least 80 baseball games a year, check the score when I can't watch them, etc.

I have also played every Pokemon generation, watch anime, play all sorts of video games, and have an 8 year old GameFAQs account.

All of my hobbies are equally stupid, and I'm okay with that. I just enjoy what I enjoy, and I don't like the elitist attitude that people have (whether they're sports fans or "nerds") because their hobbies are somehow better. They're not.

There is nothing like the 30-60 seconds after your team scores a goal in football (soccer)

Literally every stress, worry, anger, etc in your life melts away and you encounter pure ecstasy. There's no feeling like it in the world.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1621307437954391&id=319485334803281

Look at their faces. To experience that feeling, there is no comparison in any sport or moment in life.

Once you have that, you understand why people love sports.

I have always argued sports is the best entertainment in the world. It's not just what happens during the game, but what happened before and after as well. Competition, drama, emotion, and it's all real. And when your team does something good it is a better feeling than any show or movie ending.

One of the best stories recently was the Matt Barnes/Derek Fisher fiasco. Holy shit that was crazy :P

I don't hate sports, but they're really not my thing to watch. Playing them is usually more fun, but the thing that really kills it for me is the culture around it. Remove the rioting & overreacting to which team loses (or wins in some cases), & I'd have no problems with it.

I grew up playing/watching/breathing AFL, and it never lasts 4-6 hours. 3 hours max. Unless you refer to pre/post match coverage, in which case in Victoria it's 24 hours.

It went from 12pm (which includes the pre lunch celebration and kids activites shown on live TV while peordically showing the players in waiting rooms getting ready.) The games started at 1:30 and lasted until 5pm, then it was an hour of post game commentary and celebrations.

Nowadays, this is shorten down and pre game stuff is removed except for the grand final due to financial costs.

I found it insanely boring.
