Despite the rather large
illegal alcohol trade, Prohibition did drastically reduce the general alcohol consumption during its time. And made it significantly harder to option alcohol. If we applied that same concept to guns, even if it doesnt stop all gun related crimes but if it reduces it even slightly and saves some lives. I dont see the problem then with gun control being compared to Prohibition.

No alcohol, no addiction. Ban alcohol!

(Btw, its probably better overall to ban cheeseburgers and steaks, if we are actually interested in lowering needless deaths. Of course, we will not do that, though.)

Canada, the US, Australia all have a stupidly high % of vehicle deaths related to alcohol. Coincidentally, all 3 are countries where culturally alcohol is promoted as the key to having a good time and binge drinking is glorified.

That still isn't "most people".

Reminder that opioids are supposedly "controlled substances" and they cause a stupidly high # of deaths

People are idiots when it comes to addictive substances, who knew!

And why does it need a qualifier of "most people"? The US has one of the worst rates for alcohol-related vehicle deaths for developed countries (as a percentage of all vehicle-related road deaths). Obviously that's correctable given the UK has roughly half the rate and Germany less than a third, but it clearly requires a cultural shift in how alcohol is viewed and consumed.

Probably the nature of each substance and how it affects people (in general). Alcohol and marijuana create very different intoxicated sensations.
I'd rather not see anyone under the influence of either one on the road. I mean it's not too difficult to NOT to be a irresponsible with your drug of choice.

I agree with you.

I don't know what statistics you're using, nor am I in position atm to look them up, but I'm curious if the rate is really alarmingly high compared to those countries or if its in scale considering our population and driving statistics.

If the average American spends more time behind the wheel compared to the British or Germans and there's more of them driving instead of using public transportation, it would make sense that vehicle deaths, including alcohol related ones, would be proportionally higher.

It's a direct comparison of alchol-related vehicle deaths as a percent of all vehicle deaths. Comparing rates, not straight up numbers.

US is at about 30 or 31% of vehicle-related deaths involving alcohol. UK is about 16% and Germany is about 9%.

What about Russia?

It's like 45% or something, the worst in Europe. Even France's is like 29% of all vehicle-related deaths involve alcohol crazily enough.

South Africa's is like 60% >_>

Let me rephrase my comment:

Guns were created with the intention of taking lives. Alcohol does not have the same history associated with it.
