I'm the only one who clicks on the "safely remove hardware" button. I don't know if it does anything but I always do it, can't imagine yanking the thumb drive out of the slot just like that.

I always safely remove it. Never judging by the texts and calls I get from people saying it won't let them safely remove it, they do to.

for some reason i don't bother on windows, but on os x i always eject the media before unplugging it from the io ports.

i wrecked a 1TB HDD this way so never again.
if for some reason it hangs and still won't give me the green light, i turn off the comp before removing it. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have to assume that if it's actually important then USB would have been designed with a physical locking mechanism in the first place.

for hard drives I still do eject but for flash drives I just YOLO it
