like just all around general advice. I'm looking for a bat and mitt but I'm not sure which kind of glove I need, or if there's really that big a difference. Wouldn't you always want the bigger glove? what's the small one for?
Is there anything else I might wanna look for?

Infield VS outfield glove VS catchers mitt

If you want a glove, find an old used leather one at a garage sale. New gloves suck and you need to break them in

Get some batting gloves so you don't get blisters on your noob hands

Have a heavy bat for practice swinging or a weight that goes on your normal bat so your normal bat is really easy to swing after using the other one

Find some friends and just play catch and hit balls/run plays if you don't have people for an actual game

Wear two cups; one in front, one in back.
That black anti-glare grease stuff works best if you put it in a full circle around both eyes.
Pine tar inside your shoes helps you stick to the base path.

No, it's just a joke because baseball players have a reputation for it. It doesn't have much to do with improving your actual game, but it will make you feel more "authentic".

Speaking of which, you should totally do the long socks over your pants look. Not really that common anymore but it's the best baseball look IMO.

Also are you still in HS or something? Why are you just now getting into baseball? Most people just play softball when they're adults.

a few friends of mine just stirred me into playing baseball :P
plus, I haven't played a sport in years, since I was a little kid
it would really help my chances of getting into my dream school, USNA since 92% of their student body participated in sports :v

Isn't that kind of old to be trying out for the baseball team with no baseball experience? Especially since baseball is a pretty hard sport where even the best players are expected to fail most of the time (well... maybe not so much in HS baseball).

Yeah baseball has a fairly steep learning curve as far as sports go. Football might be a better route unless you're all skin and bones

our school doesn't have a football team :'(

Do what I did and give up on HS sports and wait for college IMs. You can play those without much background and it's not super serious (at least not where I went)

You will probably be awkward and terrible, but dont let that stop you. Keep at it, you might really enjoy it.

i dont actually play baseball but it is one of my favorite sports.

if you dont like it after trying it but are a math nerd: become the teams statistician/sabermetric(advanced baseball stats) nerd!

If you want to learn to hit a baseball, buy an old broom and some plastic golf-balls.

Practice hitting the golf balls with the broom handle. Your hand-eye coordination will improve a ton.

As for fielding and gloves - most of that you need to practice with a friend. If you have a brick wall somewhere nearby, you can buy some tennis balls and practice throwing/pitching at the wall. It if is a wall you can mark, use some tape to put some 'targets' on it and practice throwing at the targets from different distances and angles.

Check your tennis courts. Sometimes people hit them out of the fence and just leave them.
