If I had remembered my assault vest on Samurott I could have potentially made it a better match, but my team was basically a bunch of slowpokes and garbage so I dont think I had much chance either way

My team wasn't great either, but I do think it had a pretty good matchup against yours either way, especially starting up 6-5 on turn 1.

Sending in Samurott earlier probably helps, but I'm not even sure it beats Shaymin 1-on-1 even with Assault Vest. Shaymin is surprisingly tanky, which has messed me up on multiple occasions. (After checking damage calc yeah, Megahorn only does like 50-60%) Also one of my remaining pokemon was Glaceon, which reduced the threat of Sceptile (which would have been alive in that instance) and Gligar significantly unless the Sceptile was a set that had Focus Blast. Don't remember what my 6th Pokemon was unfortunately.

If he didn't have that damn hitmontop the last game it would have been so much different. Those first 2 games were hilarious though in their same-ness

I guess the one thing I did wrong was send togekiss out to die against exeggutor, but I thought kiss had high spdef so I thought maybe it could scare the exeggutor out. If kiss were alive it could have completely walled breloom. I guess I should have just been more patient and let torterra stall eggs out

I felt bad with that shell smash sweep but it ended up balancing out lol.

Hitmontop and breloom really bailed me out in that third one. I didn't have a damn thing for togekiss so I was lucky to kill it at all.

"Oi Steiner! I wanted to msg ya an idea for PRBL playoffs! If it's going to be top 4 from each div, I was thinking maybe a page playoff system might work nicely.

Baiscally it would work like this

1 vs 2
3 vs 4

Winner of 1 vs 2 goes straight to Quater Finals
Loser of 1 vs 2 plays against the Winner of 3vs4 and Winner of THAT game goes to the other quarter final spot

It could be something like...

1A vs 2B
3C vs 4D

2B beats 1A and goes to Quarter Final
3C beats 4D and then vs 1A. 1A wins and goes to other quarter final.

Rinse and repeat for all 4 divs.

A good benefit of Page Playoff system is that it rewards the top 2 players in each division and gives them a small blanket in the first round.

Seeing ultra Necrozma and Kyurem-B in the first match was a bit of a downer, but it was a fun set overall. And honestly you just played way better than me anyways.

Ultra Necrozma is so busted. It's got like 270 attack and 230 speed with reasonable bulk (plus Prism Armor before it switches forms if needed which can be useful), and it also has Swords Dance just in case 270 Attack+strong STAB's+Neuroforce+a Z-move wasn't enough offensive power.

Like you didn't even see the half of it in that game because I was being conservative with it (honestly probably a mistake in this case), but it's easily capable of deciding games on its own against a pretty wide range of opposing teams.

Congrats Pyre! With how much work and studying you do on different sets and stuff, you sure earned finally winning one of things things.

I wouldn't say that I really study at all. I've just played such a high number of matches that I've seen every set enough to know what it does and roughly how strong it is. Maybe that's what you meant, but I wanted to clarify that I don't do like theorycrafting or anything like that.

One other thing though is I do think my competitive instincts are quite good. There's a lot to be said for knowing when you should be committing to something, when you should be holding back, when you should just sac something, etc, and I do think that's something I have a noticeably better feel for than...well pretty much everyone besides other top ladder players if I'm being honest.

My biggest weakness this season was just knowledge of sets. But considering I won every round except for the first playoff round where set knowledge would have done me jack squat, I guess that was never really exploited.

And thanks, that is definitely nice to hear, perhaps next season (if it's still run) we'll be able to have a battle of the ages! <3
