We just started dating a few weeks ago too. She called me yesterday because she was at the OBGYN and found an ulcer.

Apparently it takes 6 weeks or show to show signs once contracted. Which means I didnt give it to her. She hasnt had sex with anyone else since August, and same with me.

Im 99% sure I dont have it hahaha. I think based on circumstances, I doubt she has it. Well find out today. If she has it, so do I for sure now ughhhh

Is it even that bad anymore?

You should be fine since its caught early if she indeed got syphilis. Prepare for multiple shots in your buttocks though. That allegedly hurt quite a bit.

It goes away right? Its not like herpes that you have for life. Once you get those penicillin shots its gone?

Yes, it is treatable. But I believe you need treatment under a period of time - its not just shots at one occasion. So Id assume its very important that you two have very safe sex in the meantime.

i dont even know how detection for that works, but it's always good to get tested after every new partner

Yeahhhh. Ive never been tested, but I also havent had many parters at all. Dated a girl for a year back in college like 6 years ago, had a hook up right after, then a hook up this past August.

Ok...damn I need to get tested. Crap.

I go get tested for STDs a couple times each year and they take one blood sample for HIV and one for Syphilis.

Go get tested. But no it's not the terrible killer it once was. You get some penicillin (I think) and you're good to go.

You haven't lived until you've caughy an STI.

You should be fine. The Syph, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are all cureable (for now). Just ensure you two have safe sex until it's cleared up. You don't wanna be passing a super strain back and forth for a couple of years.
