do you support japanese imperialism?

Mr. Ramo described Japan as a country which occupied Korea from 1910 to 1945, but every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural, technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation.

The remark immediately ignited outrage in South Korea, the Olympic host nation, where resentment of Japans harsh early 20th-century annexation of the Korean Peninsula continues to simmer. Just last month, Mr. Abes attendance at the Games was in question after tensions escalated over Japans refusal to reissue an apology for the Japanese militarys role in forcing Korean and other women to work in military brothels during World War II.

Soon after Mr. Ramos remark, an online petition began to circulate demanding an apology from NBC. By Sunday, more than 8,000 people had signed it.

Any reasonable person familiar with the history of Japanese imperialism, and the atrocities it committed before and during WWII, would find such statement deeply hurtful and outrageous, the petition read. And no, no South Korean would attribute the rapid growth and transformation of its economy, technology, and political/cultural development to the Japanese imperialism.

many people were angry especially asians that aren't even korean! because ramo obvious doesnt understand how hurt people were and sensitive people were about japan who came to many asian countries and killed many people and raped many people and didn't even apologize after all these years!

his comment is like saying EUROPEAN countries should be grateful that germany occupied their countires and KILLED their peoples and raped a lot of people too!

As a kid growing up in Korea, saw a LOT of museums showing some Japanese atrocities lol. Gave me fucking nightmares, would still cringe now if I saw that. They also shot a bunch of people doing a non-violence peace rally, cut a kid's face off for literally no reason, etc

it was NOT a nothingburger but more of a serioustaco

he did not intend to offend maybe but his LACK of research and knowledge of ASIA when hes reporting in ASIA is ashameful.. it is like when koreans try to represent black culture and accidentally black face...
dwyIbZ6

even though they dont know its very hurtful to black people it is still very hurtful to them and they should learn now to do those kind of insensitive things. recently black people have gotten more recognition due to the release of black panther that was also filmed in korea so maybe koreans will udnerstand more about how black people feel when korean comedians black face

Overdoing the caps. Tone it down a bit next time.

the caps are not overdone they are for EMPHASIS for certain words. certain headlines will need more EMPHASIS depending on which words that are used and for this headline those are the words that need to be emphasized
