I spaced our my meals so I never got super hungry but on days I couldn't take it is have a protein bar or some peanuts and just go a little over for the day.

Id also run or jump rope off maybe 200-400 calories and wouldn't count those so even when I cheated a little I was usually still under.

Black iced coffee or just simply water.

If youre trying to cut back try intermittent fasting. I just dont eat breakfast or lunch. I eat one meal a day. It takes some time for your body to get used to it. The first three days youll feel like death. The fourth day isnt much better, but it isnt any worse than the previous three. It gets easier from there. The first two weeks are pretty rough in general, but if you can make it through the first two weeks, you got it. And after 6 weeks youre completely in the clear. You wont even get hungry until your feeding window is open.

Ive been doing OMAD since October and Ive lost 35.4lbs so far. Weight was dropping off fast at first, about 5lbs a week. Then it slowed way down to about .5-1lb a week. Then for no reason at all it picked back up to about 2-3lbs a week here recently.

Intermittent Fasting diary

Day 1) October 16: 230lbs
Day 7) October 23: 225lbs
Day 14) October 30: 220lbs
Day 21) November 6: 218lbs
Day 28) November 13: 216.4
Day 35) November 20: 214.6
Day 42) November 27: 213.4
Day 49) December 4: 211.2
Day 56) December 11: 207.8
Day 63) December 18: 208.2
Day 70) December 25: 207.2
Day 77) January 1: 205.8
Day 84) January 8: 204.0
Day 91) January 15: 203.0
Day 98) January 22: 202.8
Day 105) January 29: 199.6
Day 112) February 5: 197.4
Day 119) February 12: 194.6

I second the water, but room temperature to even slightly warm water always helped me out for the sake of cutting out hunger.

I never found "cheating" with a celery stick or two to have any negative reflection on my weight loss goals either.

My eating habits could barely be considered a diet. I'm not trying to burn every last bit of fat as fast as possible, just get into good habits that lead to consistent results It's really just three major guidelines:
1. Never go hungry.
2. Try to get protein with each meal you have.
3. Make smart choices most of the time.

I don't count calories, I don't log my food choices. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what good dietary choices are. The one I'm most concerned with is not going hungry - if I'm starting to get hungry and the only options are garbage, then I'm eating garbage now and I'll continue making good choices later.

Like I said, not really a diet, but I've been consistently losing 1-1.5 lbs a week for a while now. Down from 190 to 165.

Calorie counting is never a good way to lose weight unless you were way over a normal daily limit. Bodybuilders eat 3-4K calories a day and still drop fat for a show or photo shoot. The trick is manipulating what and how you eat to keep your metabolism up. Calorie deficit leads to starvation, which slows your metabolism down.

Im assuming youre incredibly active too. To constantly be eating, even healthy food, you are constantly keeping your glycogen levels full. If your glycogen is full then you dont have access to your fat reserves.

Fajitas on wheat tortillas was my weapon of choice when I started. Because I could eat a lot and I wouldnt get a lot of calories. Eventually I got tired of it and went back to standard American diet, but I still kept my calories under 1,500. Which is still a lot of calories for one meal. Youre really not going to go over that amount unless youre just trying to. As long as you eat a semi-normal meal you should be fine with OMAD.

The part about never going hungry was more, don't let adherence to a strict calorie count lead to you choosing not to eat even when your body is clearly telling you it needs some. That isn't healthy behavior.

I don't know how to say this without sounding like a jackass but, being hungry literally all the time one isn't eating sounds like a severe metabolism problem in itself.

Boy no. Counting calories is the most inefficient way to lose weight by far. Its about what you eat, not how much.

Simply not true at all. It can be about what you eat if you have something like diabetes or a metabolic disorder but otherwise calories in calories out. You can eat 4K calories in chicken nuggets or grilled chicken and rice its still 4K calories that has to go somewhere. Talking about a bodybuilder carrying 95% muscle doesnt mean much since they burn far more calories than your average 25ish body fat person.

Finding a diet suited for yourself is more important. I lean keto for instance.

People act like carbohydrates and calories are the worst things, while theyre really not. Theyre necessary.

Youre hungry because youre cutting out carbs, but what you need to cut out is sugar and salt. I cut those two things out and lost about 80 pounds. I dont even think about calories.

Tip: drinking a beer has about as much sugar as a coke

That was just one of several sources on the first page. Calories in/calories out isnt the bottom line for a proper diet. I mean I can eat fast foods high in carbs, sugar, salt, and trans fats and still be well below my limit, but I wont lose a pound no matter how much I work out because its the wrong types of food. I used a body builder as an example because they are masters of nutrition manipulation for fat loss. Personal trainers NEVER recommend calorie deficits for a clients diet because it never works...ever. You have to find the right balance of nutrition to lose weight...for some its keto, others its paleo, or maybe Mediterranean. But, calorie deficit is a waste of time in the long run.

The human body doesnt work like that but we can agree to disagree. You have to cut calories to lose weight. Everyone has a magic number of what they need to maintain daily at their current weight. Then you typically drop 10%-20% under that to lose. Bodybuilders also do that when they cut, sometimes even more extreme. You would know that if you actually looked up bulk and cut cycles in weightlifting.

Random articles on google from some lady who stopped counting calories dont matter much to me when peer reviewed research proves its BS.

Also, see Fathead for a great example of how someone could eat McDonalds breakfast, lunch and dinner and lose weight by keeping their calories down despite it being McDonalds. But please, keep posting articles from the magazines with 75 new ways to lose weight every month that I see in the super market checkout line.

Eating once a day is not good

Thats simply not true. Intermittent fasting is how we have evolved to survive for billions of years. Its only the past fifty that we have begun to gorge ourselves. We as a society are addicted to food and we eat way more than we need.

This guy ate McDonalds once a day for a month, but kept his calorie limit under his maintenance level. The end result, according to his doctor, is he was healthier at the end of the experiment.

Pizza can be. A slice of cheese pizza will run you about 300 calories. If you only eat one meal a day thatll get you 5 slices and still be under 1,500 calories.

I dont know what your maintenance level is, but as long as you eat 500 less than that youll lose weight.

This is what I use to determine mine:

https://www.fitwatch.com/blog/how-many-calories-do-you-burn-in-a-day

Itll get you a pretty rough estimate on what your maintenance level or basic metabolic rate (BMR) is.

Mine is ~2,000. So I just eat 1,500 per day. So far its worked fantastically.

While, CICO can work, running a pure calorie deficit can make your life miserable, and is why so many people fail/quit their diets.
